About Tim

Bagpiper available for weddings, funerals, and ceremonies. Playing the familiar Great Highland Pipes but also other British smallpipes.

Public liability insurance of £10 million

Experienced bagpiper playing not only the Highland pipes but also the more folky border pipes, smallpipes, Welsh and English pipes plus others. I specialise in bringing the music you need to various pipes. I can play the traditional Highland tunes on Highland pipes, I can bring you various folk pipes from Wales, England, Brittany and elsewhere, I can adapt your favourite music onto various pipes for the exact right sound for your event. I have performed at both nationally and privately owned castles, the National Eisteddfod, National Theatre Wales, BBC Radio, civic, commercial and private functions. I have a number of suitable outfits, either traditional Highland dress, period historical clothes or a smart modern folk musician look. I can tailor my sound and look to suit your needs. If you want Welsh folk music, English folk music, Breton, Scottish lowland folk music, Scottish Highland music, French, Flemish and Dutch or a mix of each then I'm the piper for the job. I also play traditional folk style violin. I started playing music when I was a teenager, fell in love with folk and various folk instruments at the time, playing guitar, fiddle, mandolin, Irish Bouzouki, bass and tin whistle. After a number of years I had progressed to folk style bagpipes and have been playing pipes at sessions and in gigs for 10 years, since then I have concentrated more and more on pipes specifically and these days I try to spend three hours or more (if I have eight hours I'll practice for eight hours!) a day practicing and playing for fun as well as for gigs, celebrations and events.

Thank you, Tim for listening to what we wanted and delivering that perfectly. You made it very easy to arrange something special for my Dad's funeral. I hope your fingers have thawed from playing in icy temperatures!

Hi, Thanks for having me play for you and your Dad. It was an honour and a beautiful send off. And yes my fingers (and my pipe reeds) thawed off! Best regards Tim

Tim is very talented!!!! I've heard him play a few times now and he clearly listens to his customer to find out what type of music and pipes they prefer. Also dresses for the occasion!! 🙂 highly recommended 🙌

Customer questions

What do your clients love most about your performances?

Clients love not only the sound of pipes but the way I often get to intact with guests. I'll often start from out of sight and end up walking through guests. Guests often say they think I'm a recording until I appear in front of them. Sometimes I'm arranged to be a surprise for a loved one. It's always a spectacle and always moving and thrilling.

Which venues have you performed at in the past?

I have appeared most regularly at Ruthin Castle Hotel, Beaumaris Castle and at Flint Castle for Highland pipes and ancient Welsh pipes but also at Tŷ Pawb in Wrexham for folk music gigs. Of course I have appeared in many other locations and venues to play bagpipes.

Which artists have you been most influenced by?

Bridhge Chaimbeul, Ross Ainslie, Kathryn Tickell, Fin Moore, Jon Swayne, Ceri Rhys Matthews, Jonathan Shortland, John Tose, Peni Edicker, Alan Stivell, Donald Macleod, Stuart Liddle, Peatbog Faeries, Treacherous Orchestra, Hedningarna, Clannadonia, Calan, VRi, Pevar Den, Padraig McGovern, Bothy Band, Planxty, Chieftains, Eliza Carthy, Martin Carthy

What is the most high profile gig you've performed?

Either National Theatre of Wales performance or BBC Radio Wales short talk and performance.

What if my timings change after I've booked you?

I always try my best to be flexible to help ensure your event runs as smoothly as possible. If timings change slightly in the run up to the event just let me know and I'll likely be able to accommodate.

Can you provide an iPod/DJ service before and between your sets?

I can provide a pre-downloaded Spotify play list of suitable music between sets if required. Let me know if this will be necessary.

How much time do you need to set up?

I need very little time to set up, I always arrive in good time to meet the client or a member of their party before the event.

Can I pick the pieces you play from the set list?

The client can choose from my play list here or request that I learn specific music, or that I arrange cherished music onto pipes. I can discuss which set of pipes is suitable for a particular place, part of event or type of tune. I suggest making requests at least a month or two before the event.

Do you bring all the equipment you need to perform?

As a piper I only usually need to bring my pipes however, if necessary, I can also bring a PA for things like background music in-between sets and making public announcements.

Can you learn specific pieces before the event?

The client can choose from my play list here or request that I learn specific music, or that I arrange cherished music onto pipes. I can discuss which set of pipes is suitable for a particular place, part of event or type of tune. I suggest making requests at least a month or two before the event.
