British-Singaporean pianist Tiffany Buxton is recognised for her “sense of poetry”, “refined touch … and all-rounded musical personality” (The Straits Times). Born in Singapore, is of British and Chinese descent and began playing the piano when she was four years old. In 2002 she entered the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (School of Young Talents) in Singapore, where she studied with Rena Phua. In 2012 she won 1st prize in the Category B(11-16) section of the West London Piano Festival, and was awarded the Marion Smith Memorial Trophy. In 2019 she won 1st prize at the Asia Arts Festival and the Audience Prize at the 12th National Piano & Violin Competition of Singapore. In 2020 she was one of ten finalists worldwide selected for the Yamaha Music Foundation of Europe Scholarship. Tiffany has performed at St Martin-in-the-Fields, Southwark Cathedral, St Mary’s Perivale, Warwick Arts Centre, and South Hill Park Arts Centre. In 2019, she made her Singapore début at Victoria Concert Hall playing Rachmaninov’s Piano Concerto No.2 with the Singapore Youth Orchestra to critical acclaim. Under the auspices of the Chopin-Gesellschaft, she has taken part in summer courses held in Darmstadt, Germany. She has also received masterclasses from Jean-Efflam Bavouzet, Philippe Cassard, Peter Donohoe, Christopher Elton, William Fong, Philip Fowke, Ronan O’Hora, Stephen Hough, Joanna MacGregor, and Dina Yoffe. As a chamber musician, Tiffany was a founding member of the Buxton Trio, with whom she regularly performs throughout the UK. Her interest in contemporary music also led her to perform in the world premiere of Simon Parkin's Goldberg Jazz Variations, and she was subsequently invited to perform as an orchestral pianist with the RNCM Wind Orchestra conducted by Christian Lindberg. In 2022, their performance of Andrea Tarrodi’s ‘Seamounts’ was recorded and released on the European Gramophone label. Tiffany completed her BMus (Hons) in Piano Performance in 2022 at the Royal Northern College of Music, under the tutelage of Prof. Colin Stone. At present, she continues her studies with Prof. Pascal Nemirovski (International Chair, Royal Birmingham Conservatoire). Now based in London, Tiffany is committed to musical education and enjoys teaching students of all ages and abilities. Since 2022, she has also taught at The Purcell School, where she enjoys working closely with some of the country’s most gifted young musicians.
