Based in Bristol, Thom is an accomplished jazz and session trumpeter, able and willing to perform and excel in any genre and situation. Having studied Jazz at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama (under the guidance of Paula Gardiner, Steve Waterman, Dudley Phillips, Alex Merritt and Geoff Simkins), Thom has spent the last few years building an extensive repertoire and collaborating with a wide variety of musicians on projects both as a bandleader and as a sideman, including performance and recording work with Jack Mac, the Matheus Prado Septet and the Alex Goodyear Bop Septet. Foremost among his influences are collaborative projects with international jazz musicians such as Gilad Hekselman and Iain Ballamy, instilling in Thom an understanding of the inherent passion in music and drive to seek new ground.

Customer questions

Which venues have you performed at in the past?

The Vortex, Dalston; The Clore Ballroom, Southbank Centre, London; Mr. Wolfs, The Old Duke and The Full Moon in Bristol; Hard Rock Cafe, Mayfair, London; The Leadmill, Sheffield; Tramshed, Dempsey's, Porter's, The Flute & Tankard and Café Jazz, Cardiff; Ucheldre, Holyhead; The Taliesin Arts Centre, Swansea Jazzland and The National Waterfront Museum, Swansea

Which artists have you been most influenced by?

That's a tough question. I'm almost constantly finding new inspiration in music; in terms of jazz, I'd say I've been most influenced by the music and playing of Thelonious Monk, Kenny Wheeler, Charles Mingus, Avishai Cohen and Ambrose Akinmusire. However, I find the music of contemporary composers such as Barry Guy and John Zorn equally as inspiring.
