Thibault Blanchard-Dubois is a French cellist currently based in London. As well as playing standard cello repertoire, he is working on mixing classical music, experimental-contemporary music, digital art and new technologies.
He won awards in many competitions: among them finalist at The Vera Kantrovitch Solo Strings 2016, finalist at Baert International Competition, Vatelot-Rampal Competition in Paris (2013), 1st prizes at Concours des Clés d’or in Paris (2013), at Epinal Music Competition (2006).
He started playing the cello at the age of 6 at Besançon Conservatoire of Music where he got his Final Diploma with First-class honours in 2009. He is currently studying for an undergraduate degree at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music with internationally renowned cellist David Cohen.
Thibault has worked with well-known musicians such as Natalie Clein (teacher at the Royal College of Music of London), Yvan Chiffoleau (teacher at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Lyon, Roland Pidoux, Erkki Lahesmaa, and under the direction of renowned conductors such as Pierre Cao, Peter Csaba, Régis Pasquier…
He is particularly interested in chamber music and has played in piano trios and with the London Meridian Players, a new string ensemble. He is very keen on combining music with other art forms such as theatre, dance and digital arts. He has created a show, ‘’P comme Piano’’ mixing theatre, live music, singing, photography which was performed twice in Brussels in 2016.
He is inspired by working with living composers and has collaborated with Eliott Delafosses, a young French composer with whom he played the world-premiere of “13/22”, an experimental work for cello solo in response to the Paris and Brussels terrorist attacks of 2015 and 2016. Other composition projects with Eliott Delafosse are currently in progress such as a work for cello octet and a pedagogical method for young cellist.
Teaching and sharing his passion with the young generation is another side of Thibault’s work. He was the cello teacher in several music school around Besançon (France), between 2010 and 2014.
He also organized a 5-day masterclass for young cellists in Paris in October 2014, and will be the chamber music teacher in the next masterclass of Frédéric Borsarello in April 2017 in France.
He has also taken part in the writing of a pedagogical method ‘’Les Cahiers du Violoncelle’’ by Frédéric Borsarello in 2014.
