About The Swan Consort

Elite choral ensemble working across the UK
Choir
UK
Public liability insurance of £5 million

The Swan Consort is an elite chamber choir based in the UK. They were founded in August 2018 by British Asian conductor, Anita Datta, and launched with a residency in Lincoln Cathedral and Beverley. In their first year alone they performed to acclaim at venues including the University of Cambridge, Lincoln Cathedral and Beverley Minster, and were invited to sing festal Mass for Ascension Day in York Minster. The Swan Consort specialise in retrieving forgotten gems from the European Renaissance, and discovering new music by diverse voices in the present day. With their engaging and person-centred approach, they present meaningful programmes that engage new audiences whilst delighting and surprising seasoned concert-goers. The Swan Consort have been highly praised for their ongoing collaboration with Chicago-based musicologist Dr. Eric Esparza in performing the rarely heard Vespers Motets of Venetian composer Francesco Cavalli’s collection. Equally their explorations into new music and cross-cultural expressions have touched listeners, and sparked new projects and collaborations nationally and internationally.

Customer questions

What do your clients love most about your performances?

We have a thrilling live classical sound, and our approach is warm and intimate. You will feel at the heart of the music with us, whatever your background and experience with choral and classical music.

Which venues have you performed at in the past?

We have performed at a range of spectacular venues including Lincoln Cathedral, York Minster, the University of Cambridge, and some stunning local architectural treasures around the UK.

Which artists have you been most influenced by?

Voice ensembe supertstars I Fagiolini, Alamire, and French early music group Les Arts Florrisants.

What is the most high profile gig you've performed?

The most high profile gigs for us are those with a happy and inspired audience - sounds cheesy, but it's true!

Do you have different line-up options?

We usually perform as 8 singers with one conductor. However we are able to offer a full and equally beautiful sound with 4, 5 or 6 voices only. We are able to source instrumentalists to accompany if you desire this at an extra cost.

What if my timings change after I've booked you?

We always try our best to be flexible about changing timings, but delays on the day may be chargeable. We will discuss this with you and agree a policy in advance.

Can you provide an iPod/DJ service before and between your sets?

n/a

How much time do you need to set up?

We ideally need 30 minutes to set up before a wedding service or an hour's programme in order to warm up and get sung into the space. For longer programmes, we may request a longer rehearsal time in the space.

Can you roam around while you perform?

Not usually! Talk to us if you have something in mind and we'll let you know if it's possible.

Can I pick the songs you play from the set list?

Absolutely! We are fully open to requests and are able to sing most things with adequate notice and access to the music.

Is all of the equipment (e.g. PA & lighting) included in your quote?

We don't have a PA and lighting set up as a classical ensemble, but all we need to make music we will bring with us. If amplification and lighting is needed, we should discuss this and make arranements before the event.

Can you learn song requests before the event?

Our repertoire is wide ranging, and it's likely we may already know a piece that you request. However it's also possible for us to learn special songs for you too. there may be a small rehearsal fee for this additional service, so please get in touch with us.
