The Oxford Gargoyles

The Oxford Gargoyles have been scatting and schmultzing since 1998, making the group of Oxford University students 25 years old this year! They're notorious around Oxford for their nifty quarter-zip fleeces, inventive scat syllables, singing 'My Baby Just Cares for Me' at almost every gig they’ve ever done, and performing in black tie. The group are primarily a jazz ensemble, so are no stranger to a 'dm tsm' bassline, or a big juicy harmony, as well as involving lots of improvisation in their performances. Unlike the grotesque statues dotted around the city, they’re actually quite a light-hearted bunch, and aren’t adverse to a bit of movement either, helped by the infectious grooves of their in-house arrangements. Highlights of the gargs’ average academic year include an opening gig at a 13th century pub, a christmas & cocktails concert, recording albums and videos, performing at black tie events and balls, and the annual Edinburgh Fringe, which they were delighted to return to for the fifteenth time last summer. This year they will be also be competing in the International Championship of Collegiate A Capella! By hiring the gargoyles to light up your event with their vibrant music and personalities, you will be helping the group massively to achieve these goals, and actively contributing to the development of these exceptionally talented and exciting young musicians! Because of the classical training backgrounds of many of our singers, we are also able to offer an 8-person Gargoyles Consort service, for any sacred/secular choral engagements you may have.
