The Oxford Commas are the newest and hottest a cappella group from the University of Oxford. Fresh off our critically acclaimed "Aca-Demic Weapons" set at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, the Commas are ready to wow more audiences this year! We are a gender-inclusive, lower voices group and pride ourselves on our soulful harmonies, infectious stage presence and diverse repertoire, spanning from iconic pop bangers to close harmony, with forays into bossa nova and R&B. Most importantly, we believe that our camaraderie is the key to our success as a group, a characteristic clearly reflected in our performances and noted by audience members and professional reviewers alike. Founded in 2015, the group enjoyed early success, reaching the final of Sky TV's Sing: Ultimate A Cappella, and going on multiple successful tours to the United States. Following a hiatus during the COVID 19 pandemic, we have experienced a significant resurgence since, touring Germany and making a hugely successful debut at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival last year, where we showcased the highs and lows at our iconic university through the unlikely medium of a cappella. We also have a lot of experience performing in churches and conducting workshops for primary and secondary schools, which have proved very popular with students. We're open to performing for any type of event and discussing what songs and themes would work best for you.

We hired the Commas for a Concert by Candlelight event and they went down a storm with the audience! We received much feedback praising their energy, humour, and creative approach to well known pop songs, Christmas hits and carols. Their very funny and brilliantly choreographed take on the 12 Days of Christmas was a particular highlight, as was their moving rendition of Lully, Lulla, Lullay. They opened the concert with Believe by Imagine Dragons which made everyone sit up in their sets and set the tone for the first half. Poisoning Pigeons in the Park was voted the favourite by the kids in the audience, not sure what the Vicar made of it! 100% would recommend and we are going to rebook for next year. They sounded really good with the acoustics in the church, they clearly have a lot of talent and a lot of passion about singing together which shines through.

When I decided I would try and book you for my sister's 40th wedding anniversary, I found your website quite easily on line and started a conversation/thread which led to the booking. I remember starting the process around March/April as I really wanted to book you and didn't know how booked up you were. Email responses were quite fast. Plus the date was a Sunday and I was delighted that it being a Sunday didn't preclude booking. I had no idea how much groups get paid for performing but I wanted/needed small group for my occasion and even though I know there are contacts with the Oxford Commas and Long Crendon I was happy to not negotiate around booking fee. And I thought £400 divided by possible 10 members very cheap! I think 9 Oxford Commas arrived nice and early for their booked session, left their shoes outside as I don't have shoes in my house and they warmed up their voices in my front room. They gave us a delightful selection of songs over 30 mins. We were all very happy with the gig & selection of songs. One of my family is quite musical and they run their local church choir outside Glasgow and they were very impressed by your performance.

We used The Oxford Commas for a Christmas function. It was beautiful and never felt so christmassy. They were great to communicate with and were very punctual, we were dealing with several companies and The Oxford Commas was by far the easiest. They made organising such a large event that little bit less stressful. The performance was stunning and we had so many comments from our clients after the event stating how they made the event! We will 100% use them again in the future and worth every penny we paid!

Customer questions

Do you have different line-up options?

Most of our pieces require beatbox, and 4-part harmony with Tenor 1 and 2, Baritone, and Bass, alongside a soloist, so we'll aim to have 8-12 singers at every event to give you the best quality Commas experience!

What if my timings change after I've booked you?

We always try our best to be flexible to help ensure your event runs as smoothly as possible. If timings change slightly in the run up to the event just let us know

How much time do you need to set up?

We usually do a sound-check after warming up which takes 30 minutes, depending on the set up and whether we are performing acoustically or with microphones. We can organise all the details with you after booking.

Can you roam around while you perform?

Yes, we normally perform acoustically or with wireless handheld mics so moving around is not an issue at all!

Can I pick the songs you play from the set list?

Our set lists are crafted from countless performances and learning what works best to ensure guests dance and have an amazing time. However, we're definitely happy to chat through and make sure we find what works for your event.

Is all of the equipment (e.g. PA & lighting) included in your quote?

We typically bring a few handheld mics ourselves (up to 5, which is more than sufficient for us to put on an amazing performance). However, we would require the venue to have a PA system, although we are also adept at performing acoustically too.

Can you learn song requests before the event?

We have a good amount of songs in our arrangements library, so even if it’s not on the song list, there is a chance we have an arrangement of it and could relatively easily pick it up. If there’s a song you would like us to perform, we’re happy to this for you. We will charge a fee of £75 to account for rehearsal and arrangement time etc.
