The London Jazz Duo are comprised of Robin Porter (saxophone) & Jack Gillen (guitar), two highly experienced and award-winning musicians. They regularly perform at weddings and corporate functions across the UK and internationally. Previous booking include events held in St James’s Palace (with HRH Princess Beatrice in attendance) and the Palace of Westminster, as well as for clients such as British Airways, Barclays Bank and the Hilton Hotel. They also have performed in original music projects at some of the UK’s top jazz venues including Ronnie Scott’s, the 606 Jazz Club, Pizza Express Soho and The Vortex. Robin and Jack met whilst studying at Leeds Conservatoire in 2010, and both graduated from the BA Jazz Programme with First Class Honours. Robin went onto study on the prestigious postgraduate Jazz programme at the Royal Academy of Music where he graduated with distinction, whilst Jack has been fast been earning a reputation as one of London’s most versatile guitarists. The duo’s repertoire includes a myriad of jazz standards from the Great American Songbook, as well as bossa nova’s, funk/groove-based tunes, and some more contemporary pop songs. They can tailor their set to suit your event and can even learn song requests before an event.

Really brilliant musicians who can play lots of different styles and songs, and perform at a suitable volume to create the perfect atmosphere for guests to mingle. Also very friendly and communicative people! Would recommend!

Robin is a class act and a fantastic sax player. I've worked with him on many events over the years, and he has always been reliable, professional, and willing to go the extra mile. As a player and a band leader you can't go wrong with Robin!

Customer questions

What do your clients love most about your performances?

We aim to create a warm sound and inviting atmosphere for guests - these being the most important factors that clients have loved about our performances in the past!

Which venues have you performed at in the past?

We have performed at some of the UK’s top jazz venues including Ronnie Scott’s, the 606 Jazz Club, Pizza Express Soho and The Vortex, as well as at countless weddings and private events.

Do you have different line-up options?

The London Jazz Duo are also able to expand into a larger line-up of musicians, suitable for bigger events in larger spaces. These include (but are not limited to): • Trio (saxophone, guitar/piano and bass OR singer) • Quartet (saxophone, guitar/piano, bass and drums OR singer) • Quintet (singer, saxophone, guitar/piano, bass and drums)

What if my timings change after I've booked you?

We always try our best to be flexible to help ensure your event runs as smoothly as possible. If timings change slightly in the run up to the event just let us know and we'll try to accommodate.

Can you provide an iPod/DJ service before and between your sets?

Absolutely. This is a really popular request and we actually offer this service for free. You're even welcome to send us your own playlist to us before the event.

How much time do you need to set up?

Due to our compact size, we can be ready to play within 20-30minutes of arrival. For larger line-ups and bigger events, this may take a little longer. If you would like us to arrive much further in advance, this is possible at an additional cost.

Can you roam around while you perform?

No - the guitarist uses light application so isn't able to roam. We find the best background music doesn't attract too much attention to itself anyway!!

Can I pick the songs you play from the set list?

Due to nature of the style of music that we play, we tailor our set from moment to moment to complement the atmosphere of your event. We are happy to perform song requests that we know, and for something more specific we can learn this in advance at an additional cost.

Is all of the equipment (e.g. PA & lighting) included in your quote?

We provide necessary compact amplification for any instruments that require it free of charge. For medium-large events, we can provide a larger speaker at an additional cost. For very large events, we recommend hiring a PA system. For a duo we require a minimum of 2m (wide) x 1.5 (depth) to perform.

Can you learn song requests before the event?

If a song isn't included in our song list there may still be a chance we already know it. If there is a special song you'd like us to learn we are happy to do this for you. There is a fee of £12.50 per musician for this service to take into account rehearsal times etc.
