The Freedom Jazz Orchestra can work as a 17/18 piece big band or a 22 piece jazz ensemble with the option of adding an additional string section and both options having vocalists. They gave their premier performance in December 2023 featuring musicians from Northamptonshire, Cambridgeshire and Bedfordshire. The orchestra play music from the old and new big band styles with their library containing the music of Glenn Miller, Don Lusher, and Benny Goodman through to the current day compositions of Bob Curnow, Elliot Deutsch and Gordon Goodwin. We pride ourselves on putting on a great show and we always make sure the audience has a memorable time whenever they see us.

I saw the Freedom Jazz Orchestra play a Christmas big band cracker concert and they were fantastic! They played a full repertoire of classic Christmas swing numbers, and some new and original arrangements by the band leader. I was amazed to be hearing such a professional band playing in a small venue! Soloists were very impressive, especially the highly entertaining bass trombone. The band look really good, and sound even better. I can’t wait to hear them again!

I don't know what I was expecting as I have not really listened to jazz or big bands, but it was absolutely brilliant. It seemed that nearly all members of the band played more than one instrument expertly. The sound was amazing. Some familiar tunes had been arranged differently to suit the big band and they played a real variety. I would highly recommend going to see them and will definitely be going again myself.

Do you have different line-up options?

Our base lineup is 5 Reeds, 4 Trombones, 4 Trumpets & 4 Rhythm Section (Guitar, Piano, Bass & Drums). We can do sets with and without vocalists (both male & female) We can add in an extra Reed, Trombone, Trumpet if required or even a string section.

What if my timings change after I've booked you?

We will always try our best to be flexible to help ensure your event runs as smoothly as possible. If timings change slightly in the run up to the event please let us know asap.

Can you provide an iPod/DJ service before and between your sets?

If you require some background music to help set the atmosphere and get your guests ready for our live performance please ask and we will see what we can do. This same music service can be provided during any intervals.

How much time do you need to set up?

Can you roam around while you perform?

The majority of the band would be sat down, the vocalist/s if required for your event maybe able to.

Can I pick the songs you play from the set list?

We will put together a draft programme before your event which we send beforehand if you require but, we are definitely happy to chat through and make sure we find what works for your event.

Is all of the equipment (e.g. PA & lighting) included in your quote?

With all our quotes we have a full PA system included but where possible it would be extremely helpful if any clients could give us as much information as possible to over the most suitable PA system.

Can you learn song requests before the event?

If you have a specific song request please indicate this asap so we can see if this is possible to accommodate this request. There maybe a possibility to have it specifically arranged for your event subject to extra costs but this can all be discussed with any potential clients.
