I can also play the pipes to backing tracks eg Highland Cathedral or Amazing Grace to give a full and powerful sound. Can also play sax, clarinet and vocals and will happily play a mix for you if that helps make your event even more special. Thankyou so much Tanya, that was a spectacular wedding at such a gorgeous venue - i didn’t even know that Walled garden venue existed, so it was a real pleasure to be a part of your special day. Thankyou again - kind regards Kal

We booked Kal to pipe at our wedding after having reviewed quite a few pipers. The decision was really when we saw his profile. An excellent piper and immaculately presented and played a great selection of tunes for us and my family were in tears when he played Highland Cathedral as we signed the register. He is a really nice bloke and nothing was too much trouble for him at all. Highly recommended and will definitely pass his details onto friends - Julie Benson

Clearly with all of this covid issue we couldn’t have a proper party, so we invited some guest entertainers to play for us and Kal (the derbyshire piper) came along and played some fantastic music for us as well as Christmas Carols and even helped us see in the new year, albeit a little early - what a smashing chap he is and would recommend booking him to anyone - thanks Kal for a fantastic afternoon Mike

Customer questions

What do your clients love most about your performances?

the fact that I am very flexible to meet their requirements and ensure that i play what they want and also offer other services such as vocals and can offer full band line ups as well.

Which venues have you performed at in the past?

there have been numerous venues which we have performed at particularly with our swing band line ups, including large festivals and eg Excel centre in London. For the bagpipes specifically, they tend to be played outdoors or in churches

Which artists have you been most influenced by?

because i lead the swing bands as well as the bagpiping, my influences are sourced from numerous musicians including the likes of Artie Shaw, Benny Goodman as well as Louis Prima, from a bagpiping standpoint, i like you learn and listen to the Scottish highland pipe bands as well as for example The Dark Isle Piper

What is the most high profile gig you've performed?

We performed in a Hollywood film with sir Daniel Day Lewis called Phantom Thread where we were the swing band as well as pipers. all the photos are on line and of course the film has gained an Oscar as well as world wide viewing

What if my timings change after I've booked you?

No problem at all, if I am chosen to play for you, then I allow plenty of time throughout the day to factor in all eventualities

Can you provide an iPod/DJ service before and between your sets?

Yes I can do and happy to incorporate your playlist of music as well if required

How much time do you need to set up?

Normally aim to get to the venue around an hour beforehand. If it is just a solo piper, then I am ready in 15 minutes - however if it is our trio set up of pipes drums guitar, then an hour beforehand is fine. If it is the military pipe band, then we would normally arrive 2 hours beforehand

Can I pick the pieces you play from the set list?

Yes of course, i would be delighted to discuss the play list with you to ensure it is exactly as you would wish.

Do you bring all the equipment you need to perform?

Yes, i bring the bagpipes or sax or clarinet and also a small PA system to play backing tracks if required of course

Can you learn specific pieces before the event?

Happy to learn any songs in advance of the event and can usually source the arrangement from musician colleagues
