DJ Bongo – Crowd-Reading DJ, Percussionist & Party Starter I'm Gareth Wax, aka DJ Bongo, a crowd-reading DJ, percussionist and MC with one simple aim: keep your guests dancing and make sure everyone has a great night. Every crowd is different, so every DJ Bongo set is different. I don't arrive with a rigid playlist and work through it regardless of what's happening on the dancefloor. I read the room, take requests, respond to your guests and build the music around the energy of your party. I play across decades and genres, from 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s noughties and even more recent than that! All the favourites through funk, soul, disco, rock and pop to house, dance and current party tracks. Recognisable floor-fillers are a big part of what I do, but the music is always shaped around you and your guests. Got a Spotify playlist? Send it over. It's a great way for me to understand the music you love. Give me your must-plays, your favourites and anything you definitely don't want to hear. I'll use those as the starting point, then mix around them and react to what gets your dancefloor moving. I'm also a live percussionist, so when it suits the event I can bring live percussion into the DJ set, adding another burst of energy without taking over the party. You'll probably spot me before you hear me too. The hat, bow tie and spats are part of DJ Bongo. I like bringing a bit of personality and fun to an event, while remembering that I'm there to make your party work, not make it about me. I've performed at pubs, clubs, festivals, fringe events, steampunk events and private parties, including Shaftesbury Fringe Festival, Bridgnorth Music and Arts Festival and The Surrey Steampunk Convivial. I've also spent three seasons playing in Ibiza, including Bar Mambo, Kanya and Es Paradis, and have played venues including Pacha, Café de Paris and Sin. Whether it's a 40th birthday in an intimate bar, a wedding, a big celebration, a corporate event or a night following a live band, I'll shape the set around the people in front of me. DJ Bongo performed at Brickstock festival in Kingston and just blew everyone away! Such an eclectic mix of songs - including originals as well as classics - everything from electroswing to chilled house and drum and bass. He had the place rocking! Where do I even start with DJ Bongo, the most eccentric DJ around! He’s known for getting absolutely everyone up dancing, shouting for more and creating an atmosphere that’s second to none. A true credit to have been part of our Beer Festival, and he was especially helpful with some of our last-minute bookings. We’ll definitely always rely on him to get one of our many parties started and keep the good times rolling. Thank you, Gareth, for always giving us a fab night!

What if my timings change after I've booked you?

Under normal conditions, if you inform me within 12 hours of the event, I can accommodate you. I will always do my very best to help you make your event go with a swing!

Can you provide an iPod/DJ service before and between your sets?

I can indeed provide extra playback music between the actual performances

How much time do you need to set up?

40 minutes setup time is usually adequate. It works well if we have had a discussion before hand so I only bring what we will actually use and work with.

Can I pick the pieces you play from the set list?

You can pick 4 specific tracks to play, but I will need to interleave them within the set. I will do my level best to accommodate you.

Do you bring all the equipment you need to perform?

Yes I do indeed. LD Mau 28 x 2 Linear Array Amp/Speaker system Mixer, Microphones All DJ hardware and of course little old Me

Can you learn specific pieces before the event?

If you inform me what you want to happen and when within the event, then I will make it happen. Let's make your event as fun as we can!
