About The Brim Ceilidh Band

For a fun and memorable experience combining a hybrid of Cornwall's top folk musicians with expert caller Julian Whiting at the helm
Ceilidh band
Public liability insurance of £5 million

The Brim specialise in providing an upbeat Ceilidh (Ceili or Barn Dance) for weddings, birthdays, fund raisers and other events however big or small. Although we are based in Cornwall, we also cover Devon and are happy to come further afield if required. Our repertoire of ceilidh dances covers dances from, but not limited to, Scotland, Ireland and Cornwall such as Virginia Reel, The Siege of Ennis and Dashing White Sergeant etc etc. Consisting of Piano Accordion (Alan Pengelly), Cas Davey (Guitar), Annie Bayliss (Fiddle) and Julian Whiting (‘caller’), The Brim boasts a collective wealth of experience playing for some of Cornwall’s top ceilidh bands as well as other music ensembles across Cornwall. The result is an exciting and energetic mix of both new and traditional ceilidh dances with a sound that a 5 piece would be proud of! The Brim have confirmed their reputation as one of the top ceilidh bands in the South West boasting a reputation for repeat appearances on the Main Stage at The Little Orchard Cider and Music Festival. ‘Ceilidhs’ or ‘Barn dances’ are the perfect ice breaker at any event and are a very easy and fun way to interact and socialise with others. They are suitable for any age and dancing experience is not necessary (They are also a very good form of exercise!). For those that have never heard of them or experienced one before usually come away from a ceilidh with a big smile on their face wanting more! ‘The Brim’ comes with its very own highly experienced caller (Julian Whiting) who is able to teach and lead people through the dances whatever your age or ability.

We do not provide covers due to the nature of the ceilidh experience

Do you have different line-up options?

Our core line up is accordion and guitar. Both instruments are professionally fitted with bass and midi technologies providing a large, full and high energy sound. We have a fiddler as a 3rd musician and can add a 4th Bodhran player for the full Brim big band experience.

What if my timings change after I've booked you?

We always try our best to be flexible to help ensure your event runs as smoothly as possible. If timings change slightly in the run up to the event just let us know

Can you provide an iPod/DJ service before and between your sets?

From customers:

Bride, 2 years ago

"We just thought we’d drop you an email to say thank you to the brim for helping make our wedding such a success. The performance you gave us was exactly what we wanted and you certainly got everyone up and dancing! We have had no end of compliments from our guests saying how fantastic the ceilidh was and we would not hesitate to recommend you to others. Hopefully we can think up another excuse to have a ceilidh very soon” – (Wedding ceilidh, Crowlas, Cornwall)

Bride/Groom, 3 years ago

Ceili at Polhawn Fort - A ceilidh was the perfect way to end our wedding celebrations after a weekend of memories with close family and friends. I have honestly never laughed so much and you have certainly converted many of our guests, so much so that our bridesmaid, who had injured her ankle and couldn’t join in, has insisted we go to one as soon as possible! The music, calling and general good nature you encouraged really did make our weekend truly perfect and we will certainly recommend you in the future.
