About The B-Siders

3-piece covers band fronted by Steve McGuire, lead guitarist/vocalist with Dr & The Medics 1986 No 1 'Spirit in the Sky'. Superb party band
Pop trio
Peterborough

History: The band was formed in 2019 by Steve McGuire who was the lead guitarist in the original Dr and the Medics band who had a number 1 in 1986 with Spirit in the Sky and has played on Top of the Pops and at Glastonbury, as well as hundreds of prestigious venues across the world. Steve is an immensely talented musician and has worked throughout his adult life in the professional music scene both as a performer, tour manager and, more recently, as a tutor in music production and performance at the Peterborough Regional College. He is joined by Paul Edenbrow, Assistant Headteacher at Hampton College (on drums) and Aaron Oliver, owner and manager of a music production company in Peterborough, True-Audio. A smart-looking band, well rehearsed, technically well-served and clearly focused on delivering an excellent performance. The Performance: We put on a first-class show. The concept of the band is essentially covers, but the USP is that our repertoire includes many B-sides from the golden era of 7" Vinyl Singles from 1950s to 1990s, all of which became hits in their own right. Experience Steve has a life-time of working professionally in the music business and is a very experienced musician, Aaron is a very talented musician and has an excellent professional understanding of sound and music presentation which supports our quest for superb sound quality. Our 'beating heart' is our wonderful drummer, Paul. Trusted with keeping a rhythm, he is Mr Rock Steady. We could not do it without him. Recent Playing History The B-Siders were successful in auditioning for 2020 Glastonbudget Festival: a national festival set in Leicestershire, the biggest tribute festival in the world! Auditions were tough and we were delighted to be selected to play. The covid outbreak resulted in this event being postponed to 2021 and we expect this to be where we face our largest audience to date. Covid has impacted on our number of performances this year, but we have managed to maintain a regular rehearsal schedule to keep us sharp. We have played in many local venues and have been booked for weddings where the couples saw us at a gig. We have developed our skills by playing at local clubs and pubs. We have played at a number of private parties which are absolutely great to do: everyone up for a bit of entertainment - singing along, dancing and thoroughly enjoying themselves. It is as enjoyable for us to perform as it seems to be for our audience! We have a thoroughly professional approach to all gigs: timely, tidy (!), reliable and polite and always willing to please. Good communications. We are an ideal band for broad range of age-groups. Superb entertainment, excellent range of hits to sing/dance along to. Well-received at parties, we know how to get a party going! Offering your choice of number of sets and client requests welcomed. Steve can also offer a post-show disco, if required.

Customer questions

What do your clients love most about your performances?

We play a broad range of material from across the decades of 60s to early 2000s. Our songs are all popular and familiar tunes which appeal to a wide range of age-groups. We are very focussed on making our performance fun for everyone. Steve has a great personality and engages with the audience well.

Which venues have you performed at in the past?

Pubs, clubs, private parties, weddings, Christmas parties. We were successful in audition for the prestigious Glastonbudget Festival (postponed 2020 to 2021)

Will the singer be the same as who I see in the videos?

We strive to make sure the line-up you see is what you get on the night. We do have pre-audititioned 'dep' musicians available in case a band member falls ill or is unavailable. As a professional band our reputation means everything so you can be confident that all of our players are of a very high level.

Do you have different line-up options?

We have a lead singer/guitarist, a bassist/vocalist and a drummer.

Can you provide an iPod/DJ service before and between your sets?

Absolutely. This is a really popular request and we actually offer this service for free. If you'd like a DJ service via our PA after the final set until the venue closes, we provide this for an additional fee.

How much time do you need to set up?

We usually set up about 1 to 1.5 hours before the performance time. As soon as our PA is set up we can provide a free playlist service to help set the atmosphere and get your guests ready for our live performance!

Can I pick the songs you play from the set list?

Our set lists are crafted from countless performances and learning what works best to ensure guests dance and have an amazing time. However, we're definitely happy to chat through and make sure we find what works for your event. ”

Is all of the equipment (e.g. PA & lighting) included in your quote?

Our PA and lighting system is included in your quote. We usually require a minimum of 3m by 3m space to perform

Can you learn song requests before the event?

If a song isn't included in our song list there may still be a chance we already know it. If there is a special song you'd like us to learn we are happy to do this for you. There is a fee of £30 for this service to take into account rehearsal times etc.

I went to see the B-Siders and I really didn't know what to expect. We arrived to a full pub audience so my expectations were raised:). Then I watched them set up and wasn't so sure. They exceeded my expectations and I danced the evening away. They were so good we booked them for our wedding venue. Sadly that is now on hold, but it will happen one day. Cant wait to see them again.

I booked the B-Siders to play at The Woolpack, Stanground in Feb 20 for the second gig (first in Sept 19). We are a local pub who have bands playing regularly for the customers. The B-Siders played 2 fantastic sets. Their songs went down really well. Their singing and playing was really good and we all loved them. The pub was packed and everyone had a fantastic time, it was a great show really well done. The band are booked again to play in October 2020 (after a long covid break).
