The Affections is a group of extremely talented musicians bringing the best pop, funk and soul party music to stages and dance floors up and down the UK. The band is fronted by Claire, our fantastic vocalist who has tones that are reminiscent of the current soul powerhouses like Adele and Sia, yep that’s right, we just compared her to Adele and Sia! Claire’s vocal expertise and incredibly sweet personality will win you and all of your guests round from the first song. The Affections comes as a 4-piece band, their lineup is lead vocals, guitar, bass, and drums / backing vocals. The band can also add more band members should you be looking for some brass or keys. Claire, who frequently flexes her vocal chords with an in-demand choir regularly booked by the stars, has recorded at Abbey Road Studios, and has featured on multiple Swedish house DJ records, is supported by Chris (on guitar), Ewan (on bass), and Josh (on drums and backing vocals). Collectively they have all studied at one of the most prestigious musical educational facilities in the UK, the British Institute of Modern Music; have played with the likes of Emeli Sande, Ellie Goulding, Little Mix, Edge Michael (Peter Tosh’s nephew), Gary ‘Mudbone’ Cooper (of Parliament Funkadelic), Nate James, and Mollie King (of The Saturdays); have supported Robbie Williams, Rudimental, and Ronan Keating; have performed at Isle of White Festival, Newquay Beach Break Festival, The Full Ponty, GuilFest, Evolution Festival, SXSW Festival, and Notting Hill Carnival; toured the UK, Europe, and USA; have played at the renowned 100 Club, O2 Arena, O2 Islington, and Versuz (one of Europe’s largest nightclubs); and have played on Capital FM. I think you’ll agree that they've more than earned their stripes. Claire leads the way in The Affections as she belts out the band's pop, funk and soul repertoire, from artists such as Beyonce, Aretha Franklin, and Bruno Mars. The band has a repertoire of over 600 songs covering the 1950s to the current top 40, and specializes in pop funk and soul, though their repertoire also covers Motown, rock, jazz, disco, gospel, swing, blues, Jewish as well as Christmas and Halloween genres. The Affections offer a complete service, including a PA and lighting system to light up your stage and dance floor; complimentary music before, in-between and after sets; an ‘off the menu’ song request (often the first dance); and a bespoke set list from over 600 songs for your special event, which means you’re guaranteed that the band will play exactly what you want to hear.

Customer questions

What do your clients love most about your performances?

We've been told booking us has been a 'bloody good shout!' As much as we don't like to blow our own horns, we think it's because of our tight, flawless performances, powerhouse vocals, and friendly and fun attitudes. We've also done so many gigs and built up so much experience that we can handle pretty much anything that gets thrown our way!

Which venues have you performed at in the past?

We have performed at over 223 venues over the years. Multiple times in many of those venues. Far too many to list here, but some of them include The Shangri La in Abu Dhabi, Grittenham Barn, The Berkley, Le Meridien, The Savoy, The Dorchester, The Ritz, The Waldorf, Home House, Eight Moorgate, Chelsea Physic Garden, 170 Queens Gate & Blenheim Palace

Which artists have you been most influenced by?

Aretha Franklin, The Supremes, Diana Ross, Zara Larson, Amy Winehouse, Ed Sheeran, Pharrell Williams, Jess Glynn, Bruno Mars, Estelle, Earth, Wind & Fire, Toploader, The kooks, Fleetwood Mac, Walk The Moon, Whitney Houston, Florence & The Machine, The Killers, Mark Ronson, Beyonce, Bon Jovi, Queen, Justin Timberlake, Chaka Khan, Tina Turner, Michael Jackson

What is the most high profile gig you've performed?

Collectively they have played with the likes of Emeli Sande, Ellie Goulding, Little Mix, and Mollie King (of The Saturdays); have supported Robbie Williams, Rudimental, and Ronan Keating; have performed at Isle of White Festival, Newquay Beach Break Festival, The Full Ponty, GuilFest, Evolution Festival, SXSW Festival, and Notting Hill Carnival.

Will the singer be the same as who I see in the videos?

We strive to make sure the line-up you see is what you get on the night. We do have pre-auditioned 'dep' musicians available in case a band member falls ill or is unavailable. As a professional band, our reputation means everything so you can be confident that all of our players are of a very high level.

Do you have different line-up options?

Our line-up is as follows: Lead Female Vocals, Guitar, Bass, Drums. We can add members if you've got something in particular in mind.

What if my timings change after I've booked you?

We always try our best to be flexible to help ensure your event runs as smoothly as possible. If timings change slightly in the run up to the event just let us know.

Can you provide an iPod/DJ service before and between your sets?

Absolutely. This is a really popular request and we actually offer this service for free. If you'd like a DJ service via our PA for before, in-between and after live sets until the venue closes, we provide this for an additional £278.

How much time do you need to set up?

We usually set up about 1 to 1.5 hours before the performance time. As soon as our PA is set up we can provide a free playlist service to help set the atmosphere and get your guests ready for our live performance!

Can I pick the songs you play from the set list?

Yes! We've got over 600 songs you can pick from. :)

Is all of the equipment (e.g. PA & lighting) included in your quote?

Our PA and lighting system is included in your quote. We usually require a minimum of 3m by 4m space to perform.

Can you learn song requests before the event?

If a song isn't included in our song list there may still be a chance we already know it, so please don't hesitate to ask! If there is a special song you'd like us to learn, we are more than happy to do this for you, free of charge. For every additional 'off-the-menu' song there is a fee of £50 to take into account rehearsal times etc.

We would like to thank The Affections for a fabulous evening. We were very happy with them, as were our guests. We have had several compliments since about how good they were. Our guests ranged in age mainly from 20s to 60s, they were all dancing (even the 86 year old!). We had two telephone chats with Rhona in advance, to discuss details. This was really helpful and his advice was appreciated. We thoroughly recommend them!

Rhona was very attentive leading up to our big day, making sure we were happy with song choices and set times etc and she made us feel at ease about the evening of the wedding. We’d never heard the band play live, but loved their video on That Amazing Wedding and their repertoire was exactly what we were looking for. We had complete faith that they would put in a good performance on the night and we weren’t disappointed. We danced the whole night, and our guests had a great time too. We couldn’t recommend the band more! If you want a fun band playing both modern and classic music for you to boogy the night away to then the fanatics are your band!
