About Stringception

We are a ceilidh band available for hire in Aberdeenshire!
Ceilidh band
Aberdeen
Public liability insurance of £10 million
Verified profile

Ceilidh band available for hire in Aberdeen and the surrounding. We are a three-piece band with lots of experience in playing for ceilidhs for weddings, anniversaries, fundraising events and anything else, able to tailor to your evening. Our musicians can be tailored to your preferences too, with options for 2-4 piece bands, with our recommendation of a 3-piece: fiddle, drums and keys or guitar! We play a range of music from traditional Scottish melodies to arrangements of pop songs with some tunes written by the band members too. We can play for almost any Scottish ceilidh dance imaginable from the Gay Gordon’s to the Highland Schottische or the Dashing White Sergeant to the Swedish Masquerade. That means we can do dances for beginners right up to experts, all called and explained by our band members.

We had Jonny's Ceilidh band play at our wedding reception and they were outstanding!! A large part of our wedding party was from abroad and not too familiar with the ceilidh dancing but Jonny and the band did an amazing job getting everyone dancing and keeping them right with some great calling. Everyone absolutely loved the band and we can't recommend them enough!

We had a great time at our wedding ceilidh. The band were amazing, they listened to what we wanted for the ceilidh and everything went just as we'd hoped. All our guests had a really fun evening!

Customer questions

Can you perform covers?

Covers of songs are included in some of the ceilidh dance sets but not used for 'disco' dancing.

Do you have different line-up options?

Our line up is fiddle, keys and guitar, but we can in requested situations down-size to two players. Please do also get in touch for larger groups and we'll see what we can do.

What if my timings change after I've booked you?

We are normally very flexible with timings so long as the time of day is stated. (e.g. evening) and we will be free the entirety of the evening.

Can you provide an iPod/DJ service before and between your sets?

Yes, we have a pre-made playlist that we can put on between sets and before/after. If music is needed for more than 30 mins after the end of the ceilidh we will charge £30 for each 30 mins. If you have a playlist you would like to play before and after that's also fine but the same extended times apply in terms of costs. (No additional costs before the gig).

How much time do you need to set up?

We usually take around 45 mins to set up but in extreme cases can set up without a sound check in 15.

Do you provide a caller?

Yes, the band leader will call the dances.

Can I pick the songs you play from the set list?

You can request a specific dance in advance of at least 1 week and sometimes if there is a specific dance you want done again we can agree to that on the night.

Is all of the equipment (e.g. PA) included in your quote?

PA is all included in our quote.

Can you learn song requests before the event?

If 2 weeks notice is given, then yes it is likely to be able to be done assuming it fits into our repertoire genre.

What do your clients love most about your performances?

Our clients love the atmosphere created by the events! On top of this, the music is of high quality and we are often complimented on how well we organise dancers both new to ceilidh dancing and experienced!

Which venues have you performed at in the past?

We have performed at a wide variety of venues around Glasgow, as well as (in previous years) those around Aberdeen. We have been to a wide range of venues from Golf Club's to church/town halls.

Which artists have you been most influenced by?

Our music is of a wide range, to suit the pleasure of the majority of clients. We have some traditional Scottish tunes alongside more modern tunes written by modern Trad musicians including some by members of the band,

What is the most high profile gig you've performed?

While we have played many gigs for a range of people, for disclosure reasons we cannot give away details (please see 'what venues have you performed in' for further details).
