About Stout Boots

Celtic pub songs played hard. High energy acoustic band mixing Irish, Americana and Rock to get your party started!
Celtic folk band
York
Public liability insurance of £10 million

Like so many of life’s great adventures Stout Boots began as an idea in the pub - a group of musician friends wanting the chance to perform together and have a laugh between other projects and commitments. And, like so many ideas that start in the pub, it soon got out of hand. For over 10 years now this Yorkshire band has been entertaining crowds across the North of England with their infectious energy, humour, musicianship and commitment to the song. Taking their Celtic pub songs played hard approach as their core, the band’s setlist takes in Irish pub songs, Scottish reels, jigs, Bluegrass, Country, Rock, Pop, and even the odd song made up on the spot. As Big Bill Broonzy said, “all songs are folk songs”!

We saw Stout Boots at a festival and we knew they would be a fantastic act for our regular live music nights. The band performed a special Christmas show for us and were totally amazing. They had people up dancing and singing from the start. They were lovely people too!

Customer questions

What do your clients love most about your performances?

Everyone tells us we're a high energy band - and audience reactions support that. To be honest we don't notice we're doing it, we're just having a good time!

Which venues have you performed at in the past?

We have been performing as Stout Boots over a decade and some of us have been playing together even longer. We have played everywhere you can imagine from pubs to clubs, festivals to arenas - plus every sort of tent, marquee, hotel, country house, windmill and boatyard you could care to mention.

Which artists have you been most influenced by?

There's too many to mention. We love all sorts of music and that comes through in our set list

What is the most high profile gig you've performed?

We're not sure about high profile, but one of the most memorable was the Costa Folk Festival in Portugal. Playing outside in October without a coat was mind-blowing for a band from Yorkshire!

Do you have different line-up options?

Our 4 piece line-up is: Acoustic Guitar & Vocals, Flute, Whistles, Accordion & Vocals, Electric Guitar, Mandolin & Vocals, Double Bass. We also offer 2 and 3 piece line-ups which are a mix of the above.

What if my timings change after I've booked you?

We always try our best to be flexible to help ensure your event runs as smoothly as possible. If timings change slightly in the run up to the event just let us know.

Can you provide an iPod/DJ service before and between your sets?

Absolutely. This is a really popular request and we actually offer an iPod playlist service for free.

How much time do you need to set up?

We usually set up about 1 to 1.5 hours before the performance time. As soon as our PA is set up we can provide a free playlist service to help set the atmosphere and get your guests ready for our live performance.

Can you roam around while you perform?

We're a very lively band and we move around a lot! However, given the nature of our instrumentation we're not a roaming band.

Can I pick the songs you play from the set list?

Our set lists are crafted from countless performances and learning what works best to ensure guests dance and have an amazing time. However, we're definitely happy to chat through and make sure we find what works for your event.

Is all of the equipment (e.g. PA & lighting) included in your quote?

Our PA and lighting system is included in your quote. It's suitable for most events, but if you are expecting over 150 guests please get in touch first. We usually require a minimum of 5m by 3m space to perform

Can you learn song requests before the event?

If a song isn't included in our song list there may still be a chance we already know it. If there is a special song you'd like us to learn we are happy to do this for you. There is a fee for this service to take into account rehearsal times etc.
