About Stephen

I am a professional pianist, accompanist, vocal coach and musical director.
Pianist
Leicester

Having graduated from Huddersfield University with BMus (Hons), I went on to study at the Royal Northern College of Music with John Wilson and Ka Kit Tam. At the completion of my studies I was awarded the Post-Graduate Diploma in Performance and the Clifton Helliwell Memorial Prize for Piano. The following Year I gained experience as an accompanist at Wells Cathedral School, playing for instrumentalists and singers. During this time I performed on regional TV, and was also heard on Classic FM in a broadcast of the Audi Junior Musician of the Year competition. I went on to complete a PGCE in Secondary Music and currently combine teaching music and piano, with a busy freelance career as a pianist, accompanist and musical director throughout the Midlands and London. I was a finalist in the Birmingham Accompanist of the Year competition, and perform with singers and instrumentalists throughout the UK. Recent performances have included solo/duo recitals at the Phoenix Theatre Leicester, and the Ashbourne festival. I work as a repetiteur and musical director for music theatre companies. Recent credits have included productions of ‘Aspects of Love’ and ‘Les Miserables’. I have also worked as an accompanist for several Summer Music Schools, and am currently a staff pianist for the Ardingly International Music School for Singers, where I work with many outstanding young singers. I also have a keen interest in jazz and popular music. I have worked with jazz trios and bands, performing a wide range of standard and contemporary repertoire, and also work regularly with my own jazz group, performing for hotel functions and private parties.
