About Stephen

Stephen is currently studying at the Royal Academy of Music under professor Samuel Coles, having previously studied at Cambridge University.

Stephen is currently in the second year of his postgraduate studies at the Royal Academy of Music, where he learns with professor Samuel Coles. He has had the privilege to perform under conductors such as Edward Gardner, Pascal Rophé and Gareth Hancock. As well his Academy projects, Stephen also enjoys playing with semi-professional and amateur orchestras in London, including the London Young Sinfonia, the Fantasia Orchestra and the Dorian Chamber Orchestra. He has played at many of Britain’s most prestigious venues, including the Royal Festival Hall, St John’s Smith Square and the Royal Albert Hall during a performance at the BBC Proms 2012. Stephen has also performed in masterclasses given by Emily Beynon, William Bennett, Paul Edmund-Davies, Sam Coles, Ileana Ruhemann, Susan Milan and Robert Winn. Stephen previously studied mathematics at the University of Cambridge and whilst there, played with many orchestras, including Cambridge University Musical Society Symphony Orchestra, Cambridge University Musical Society Chamber Orchestra, Trinity College Chamber Orchestra, King’s College Music Society Symphony Orchestra and Cambridge University Wind Orchestra. Stephen was a member of the National Youth Wind Orchestra of Great Britain from 2011 to 2017 and was the principal flute from 2016. He is also the principal flute, orchestral manager and founder of the cross-conservatoire Marylebone Symphonic Wind Orchestra. With a passion for chamber music, Stephen frequently enjoys playing in flute choirs, and with his wind quintet.
