Soprano Sophie Taylor-Denton began her career as a choral scholar at Nottingham Cathedral, Jesus College Cambridge and the professional choir Gareth Malone’s Voices. Sophie is in demand as a soloist and within the London choral circuit, regularly singing for St Mary’s Bourne Street and the new professional chamber choir Vox Urbane. She also deputises in London and the South East, regularly for the West London Synagogue for British Jews, Tenebrae, London Voices, the Platinum Consort and various other churches in London. Sophie is passionate about music education and is a trustee and choral leader for the Rodolfus Foundation Choral Courses. She currently studies with Tom McVeigh, and is confident singing liturgical works, oratorio and operatic works for events or concerts. Sophie can also fix choirs for events. A versatile vocalist, she can sing heavier repertoire for solo performances, produce a light tone for early music and can also sing musical theatre, jazz and popular styles. She is based in Essex, but most work takes place in London and the South East.

Sophie helped source a Gospel singer for us for a high-profile funeral. Funeral (solo)

This includes a psalm, leading hymns and up to two solo pieces. Please note: you would need to book a pianist or organist and I will need to rehearse with them on the day up to an hour before the service.

Wedding ceremony (solo)

This includes a psalm, leading hymns and up to two solo pieces during during the signing of the register. Please note I will need to have a rehearsal for up to 1 hour before the service to work with the organist/pianist you book. For wedding masses, this would include a solo mass setting, solo anthem and solo communion piece.

Assistance with leading a section for a concert, to build confidence on a vocal line. This includes an afternoon rehearsal on the day, and the concert in the evening.

This includes a soloist as well as an organist/pianist that I would source to lead a psalm, hymns and up to two solo pieces during during the signing of the register. Please ensure the venue has a piano or organ; if not, I can source a pianist who has a portable stage piano. Please note we will need to have a rehearsal for up to 1 hour before the service.

This would include 4 singers - soprano, alto, tenor and bass, which I would source for you. It could also be two sopranos and two altos, and includes a fixer fee. This includes a psalm, leading hymns and up to two choral pieces during the signing of the register. Alternatively, for wedding masses, this would include a mass setting (Kyrie, Gloria, Sanctus, Benedictus and Agnus Dei - can include a Credo as well for an additional charge eg. De Angelis, Merbecke or a Credo within the Mass setting), anthem and communion piece. Please note you will need to ensure you also book a pianist/organist if you are having hymns sung or any accompanied choral pieces, and we will need to have a rehearsal for up to 1 hour before the service.

What do your clients love most about your performances?

Versatility - I am able to sing almost everything from Renaissance to the present day, including musical theatre/gospel. Chorally I blend well. I am classically trained with a rich soprano tone, which also works well for opera favourites.

What is the most high profile gig you've performed?

What if my timings change after I've booked you?

Please just let me know as soon as you can. If I can’t do the new timings I will let you know asap or I will give you details of other trusted musicians.

How much time do you need to set up?

Up to an hour, depending on the venue. I like to allow time to rehearse, as well as time to find essentials eg hymn books, music.

Can I pick the pieces you play from the set list?

Yes, of course! I can recommend things but ultimately it’s your event.

Do you bring all the equipment you need to perform?

I can source music if you don’t have pieces available for the musicians (please specify this when booking). If you need a pianist, I can choose someone who has their own stage piano if needed.
