Cellist Sophie Gledhill enjoys the vibrant life of a freelance musician, with performances taking her from the Royal Albert Hall to Easter Island. Sophie’s recent work includes the BBC Symphony Orchestra, English National Opera, Royal Ballet Sinfonia and the BRIT Awards with Billie Eilish. In 2019 she was a member of the orchestra for the Les Misérables All-Star Staged Concert at the West End’s Gielgud Theatre. In the same year she performed in No One’s Safe, an immersive murder mystery opera set in a collection of cabins in the woods at the Banff Centre in the Canadian Rockies. As a solo cellist, Sophie has recorded for film and TV productions including the BAFTA award-winning film Ellen and BBC dramas The Long Song and The Trial of Christine Keeler. Sophie is an advocate for the use of music as a tool for social and environmental change. This passion has led her to work with arts organisations across Chile. Her proposal for RippleTank, a socially focused sound installation collective, was awarded the Global Humanitarian Entrepreneur Prize by the Hildegard Behrens Foundation. Sophie studied at the Eastman School of Music in the USA and at the University of Cambridge.
