I'm a freelance cellist based in London, working with orchestras, chamber groups and bands on stage, under the stage and in the studio.
Sophie was punctual, professional as well as extremely talented. She put on a beautiful performance for all of us at don Emilio restaurant and played incredible music on her cello. Everyone that attended loved every minute. Thank you again, Sophie, for an amazing performance and we look forward to the next opportunity!
Cellist Sophie Gledhill enjoys the variety of life as a freelance musician based in London, regularly performing with orchestras including the BBC Symphony Orchestra, Royal Ballet Sinfonia and English Touring Opera. She also enjoys playing chamber and solo repertoire, having made her London concerto debut with the Lalo cello concerto at St John's, Smith Square. She feels lucky to have performed in countries across Europe and further afield, including Azerbaijan, China and the USA. Sophie especially loves to work in theatre. As well as playing in the orchestra pit for West End shows including Les Misérables and Wicked, she has appeared on stage on a number of occasions. Most recently she was in a show called Opera for the Unknown Woman, an eco-feminist sci-fi multimedia opera in which she played cello, improvised, sang and acted with a Kiwi accent. Sophie received a degree in music from the University of Cambridge before moving to the USA for her master's degree in cello performance at the Eastman School of Music in upstate New York. She has well and truly caught the travel bug and, when not performing, she can be found in a coffee shop planning her next adventure tracking down wildlife with her camera. Sophie is excited to have launched the Global Patchwork Project, her quest to record one song from every country of the world on her cello.
