Sofia Troncoso is a first-generation American soprano of South American descent attending the National Opera Studio 2016-2017. She graduated with Distinction from Royal Academy of Music under the tutelage of Ryland Davies & James Baillieu. Prior, she was granted full studies at the prestigious Northwestern University for two degrees (Vocal Performance B.Mus and Italian Language and Literature BA). Roles include Cherubino in Le Nozze di Figaro and Fortuna/Poppea cover in L’incoronazione di Poppea (Northwestern). Una conversa in Suor Angelica (RAM), Selena in an adaptation of Pergolesi's La Serva Padrona (Edinburgh Fringe Festival) where she was reviewed as by The Scotsman as “...magnificent as the conniving Selena, with an effortlessly clear, ringing soprano, and a natural sense of comic timing..." Zerlina in Don Giovanni (Hampstead Garden Opera), Susanna in The Marriage of Figaro (Opera24 for Grimeborn Festival). Sofia was a Studio Artist at the Bonfils-Stanton Young Artist Program at Central City Opera. Previously she was selected for Castleton Artist Training Program for 2 consecutive seasons. Most recently she was hired to tour with Scottish Opera. Whilst at the Royal Academy of Music Sofia was Commended for the Michael Head Prize, Highly Commended for the Isabel Jay Foundation twice. Since arriving in the UK Sofia has been engaged as a soloist regularly: Mozart’s Requiem, Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater, Bach’s St Matthew Passion and St John Passion and Haydn’s Salve Regina to name a few. Sofia has been generously supported during her studies by the Josephine Baker Trust and the Royal Academy of Music both for an international study scholarship and for endorsement as a Graduate Entrepreneur.
