Sofia

A versatile soloist, composer and improviser, Sofia Pan is committed to promoting music as a tool for connection and breaking down the preconceptions around the classical flute innovating the flute playing with extreme extended techniques such as circular breathing, harmonics, multiphonics and flute beatbox. She was Born in Italy to Chinese parents, Sofia started studying music over a decade ago. Winner of the first prize at the International music competitions 'Music Competitions Gianluca Campochiaro' with a score of 100/100; International music competition 'Barcellona Pozzo di Gotto' and International music competition 'Magma' in Catania in Italy. Most recently she obtained the solo concerto Prize at Leeds Conservatoire to perform Daugherty's Flute Concerto with the Leeds Chamber Orchestra. Holder of the bursary kindly offered by The Universal Music Sound UK and the Wolfson funding. She performed in the UK, Italy, China and abroad, including in such major venues as the Huddersfield Town Hall, the Venue in Leeds, Aula Magna and Palazzo Biscari in Catania (Italy). Recipient of the scholarship at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama to study a Master in Composition and performance. Sofia's future aspiration is to conduct a PhD research on the theory that she has developed based on Tartini's third sound in wind instruments.
