Partners in life and in music, Sloth In The City like experimenting with opposites: acoustic yet aggressive, laid-back yet energetic, lyrical yet unrestrained. Betty’s classically trained soprano saxophone and singing is eager to explore all avenues of jazz and beyond. Andrea’s guitar, on the other hand, nearly literally beaten up and pushed to its expressive limits, is now condensing its sonic palette into a cohesive story, and borrows from anything from Joe Pass to Pierre Bensusan. Sloth In The City performs a sophisticated set of jazz covers, rearranged folk tunes and songs from the Celtic and Mediterranean repertoire, and breathtaking originals. Perfect for any function or public event requiring that the music leave an impression on the audience.

Sloth in the City are a fantastic combination of folk and jazz with an authentic Italian twist. As well as both being extremely talented musicians, Sloth in the City are a real treat.

Whilst some duos stick to a traditional & tried and tested route, Sloth In The City have avoided that. They have chosen a hip approach to their covers and original set! Not a ligh hearted approach either! They are here to play... to give a new listening experience... a must see in the LIVE! Unique in all aspects.

Customer questions

Do you have different line-up options?

No, we can be hired individually but not through this profile.

What if my timings change after I've booked you?

Please do contact us as soon as you are aware of the change, and we will do our best to rearrange promptly.

Can you provide an iPod/DJ service before and between your sets?

We are happy to provide some background recorded music just before and in-between the set, please do request this beforehand. Our PA is not suitable for DJing unfortunately!

How much time do you need to set up?

We strongly advise to leave 1 hour to let us set up, although half an hour should be enough to get us going. If the venue does not have parking on the premises this could lead to longer times.

Can you roam around while you perform?

Unfortunately not, we are bound to the stage by our cables for now.

Can I pick the songs you play from the set list?

Please do request songs from our setlist, either beforehand or on the day.

Is all of the equipment (e.g. PA & lighting) included in your quote?

We include a small PA that is sufficient for our performance. At the moment we do not have any lighting equipment, but we can discuss this in a bespoke quote if needed.

Can you learn song requests before the event?

Please do have a look at our "Skype Consultation and 2 New Songs Learned" extra. We love crafting new arrangements and learning new songs, but it does take quite a bit of our time, therefore we ask you to contribute, and we will be sure not to disappoint!

What do your clients love most about your performances?

Our musical background is remarkably diverse and we fit as many influences as possible in our performances and in our originals. Audiences always find something relatable and familiar, yet they have always said we are "fresh" and "different from the usual". Our performances have led so far to very strong engagement by everyone present.

Which venues have you performed at in the past?

We have performed at many functions such as birthdays and corporate events, as well as pubs and outdoor festivals in the UK and in Europe.

Which artists have you been most influenced by?

Avishai Cohen is our strongest mutual influence, mostly for the infectious groove and the borrowing from world music. Betty's saxophone playing is strongly inspired by Wayne Shorter but it keeps the lyricism of trumpeters like Chet Baker. Andrea builds from the voicings of Joe Pass and adds the folk touch of Pierre Bensusan and Tony McManus.

What is the most high profile gig you've performed?

We have played at the Mare Culturale Urbano Jazz Nights in Milan, opening for the Attilio Zanchi Trio. We were complimented both by the audience and Attilio Zanchi himself, and we still remember it as one of the best gigs in our life.
