Ceilidh band
Llanidloes
Public liability insurance of £5 million

Great folk dance rhythms from the British Isles and beyond. 4-5 piece Ceilidh Band plus caller Far and away the best exponents of traditional dance music for miles around and leagues beneath. Amiable and fun, catering for all dancing abilities. Sir Dancelot comprises: Graham Brand (concertina, cittern) David Cornelius Eger (fiddle, whistles, mandolin) Peter Timmins (fiddle, cornet) Matt Watson (guitar, whistles, jews harp) Richard Osborne (guitar) Diana Poole (caller) Based in Llanidloes, among the beautiful hills of Mid Wales, Sir Dancelot was formed in 2006 out of a selection of the finest musicians from the local folk scene, each of us having had our own individual journey through music before coming together as a band. Since then, we have played for countless ceilidhs, both private and public, throughout Wales, the Borders and Midlands. With English and Welsh tunes at the core, our varied repertoire spans Europe and North America, enabling us to accompany dances from the liveliest jigs, reels and polkas to stately bourrées, waltzes and an dros - and even the occasional East European circle dance. Working with our highly experienced caller, we can tailor our set to your needs, with an emphasis on Welsh dances and tunes if requested. We are also happy to provide music for non-dance events. Happy dancing!

A huge thank you to you and the band for last Saturday- everyone had such a blast in the ceilidh, and even though lots of people had never done such a thing before they had a great time! We had such a fantastic day and the band brought smiles to everyone’s faces.

Customer questions

What do your clients love most about your performances?

We love the music we play and we love how the dancers react to it. Our excellent caller ensures a great rapport between the namd and dancers, and that the whole event is fun and inclusive for all present.

Which venues have you performed at in the past?

The Metropole Hotel, Llandrindod Wells, Powys The Catle of Brecon Hotel, Brecon, Powys The Talbot Hotel, Tregaron, Ceredigion Arthog Village Hall, Arthog, Gwynedd Lake Vyrnwy Hotel, Llanwddyn, Powys Plas Dinam, Llandinam, Powys Garthmyl Hall, Garthmyl, Powys Clun Memorial Hall, Clun, Shropshire Treadam Barn, Abergavenny, Monmouthshire

Can you perform covers?

As an instrumental folk band (we do not have a singer), covers of popular songs are not primarily what we do. However, depending on the song, with advance notice, we might be able to work up an instrumental version of it for you... We like a challenge ;-)

Do you have different line-up options?

Yes. Our full line-up is 5 musicians plus a dance caller, but we can perform in smaller line-ups (2-4 musicians) to suit your space and/or budget.

What if my timings change after I've booked you?

We always try our best to be flexible to help ensure your event runs as smoothly as possible. If timings change slightly in the run up to the event just let us know.

Can you provide an iPod/DJ service before and between your sets?

Yes, we can provide recorded music between sets – or make our PA available for you to plug in your device with the music of your choice. Note that, if you would like music outside our agreed playing time (i.e. before or after), there would be an extra charge for this.

How much time do you need to set up?

For a 5-piece band, we allow 2 hours for set-up and sound-check – slightly less for smaller line-ups.

Do you provide a caller?

Yes, our excellent caller is included in the deal. We are also available without a caller if you wish to book one separately, or don't need one at all.

Can I pick the songs you play from the set list?

We pick our tunes to suit the dances chosen by our caller, but there are always multiple options. If you see some titles in our list that you would particularly like us to play, we can make sure to include them in our set.

Is all of the equipment (e.g. PA) included in your quote?

Yes, we bring, set up and operate our own PA system.

Can you learn song requests before the event?

We are always willing to learn new repertoire, so if you there is a particular ceilidh tune you would like us to play that is not in our repertoire, we will make the effort to learn it. For repertoire outside the folk dance genre, see "Can you perform covers?" above.
