He is involved extensively with projects that explore the intersection of music, technology, education, and cultural diplomacy. Simon’s solo and chamber music performances have been featured internationally in festivals and TV/Radio throughout Europe, the USA and the Middle East, including NPR’s Performance Today and BBC Radio 2, 3 and 4. His first recording as a soloist with the Royal Ballet Sinfonia was released in December 2016. His debut chamber music recording won a BBC Music Magazine ‘Premiere’ award. He tours extensively in the UK, and has appeared at most of the UK’s major venues, including the Bridgewater Hall, the Barbican and the South Bank Centre. Simon has contributed extensively to commercial projects for Universal Music, and his string section has recorded sessions for EMI, Virgin, Naxos and the BBC. He has played and recorded for artists such as Massive Attack, Elton John and Ed Sheeran, and arranged a string section for Deltron3030 at the 2016 Glastonbury Festival. Simon's ensemble has worked extensively with corporate clients including Deutsche Bank, Waitrose, the Future Laboratory, and many others. Simon is a regular guest concertmaster of orchestras and ensembles in the UK, Europe and Middle East. He is currently working on a research project at the Royal Academy of Music, exploring systems of violin pedagogy. He is the founder of ViolinSchool, an online school for the violin, and also runs a private violin teaching practice in London. Simon is the grandson of composers Tony and Anita Hewitt Jones. His father Tim is a cellist at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, and brother Thomas is a composer.

"Thank you so much for last night! The music was wonderful and made the evening perfect. Lots of our guests commented on how lovely it was to hear music as they walked up towards the terrace. As you no doubt saw the party went extremely well and everybody left happy and quite a few left a little worse for wear (but with journos you kind of expect it....) I will certainly be recommending you to anyone who enquires about last night or wants a string trio/quartet for a function". - A. Patton, Daily Telegraph, London

"Please add to your testimonials that Stephen and me cannot speak too highly of you and your musicians. Getting our post-wedding garden party right was very important, and we wanted to be different from the usual. We had guests from 10 to 80, and they all loved you. (Some of them musicians, too, and difficult to please.) The ambience you created was perfect, with music that was a joy to hear, without making conversation impossible. You do what you say you are going to do, when you say you will do it, at a very affordable price. We will have to have another party soon, just so we can book you again". - C. Longman - Private Client, Hampshire

Customer questions

Do you have different line-up options?

I play violin. Accompaniment options include piano (if you have one), keyboard (if you don't), cello, viola, string quartet, accordion, ceildh band, drums, guitar, any and all combinations of the above. Open to other combinations too. It all depends on the scope of your event and the styles you need.

What if my timings change after I've booked you?

Contact us straight away and we'll do our very best to help make it work.

How much time do you need to set up?

Not a lot. We can be very flexible if necessary. Once we understand the detail of your event, we can give you a very precise answer to this question if it is needed!

Can I pick the pieces you play from the set list?

Yes. I'll listen carefully to understand *exactly* the musical moment / impact / memory that you need to create. Then we'll guide you towards the best possible options. Any 'must-have' music choices will be built into the setlist at this point!

Do you bring all the equipment you need to perform?

Yes. Entirely self-contained. And easy to move around. Our former agent in Wales once said to us "I just love booking you ... you're so ... so ... *portable*"

Can you learn specific pieces before the event?

Yes. If you need us to source or arrange sheet music, this can be done at cost price. If there is a specific piece of music that you need which is not already in my repertoire, I can likely prepare it - please ask for a quote.
