Customer questions
Can you perform covers?
No - our focus is just on being the best ceilidh band. We play driving tunes for high-energy dancing.
Do you have different line-up options?
Our standard line-up is a fixed, four-piece band of Martin, Beth, Joe and Will - but if you have alternative requirements just ask. Also, if one of us is unavailable, we'll usually offer you a slightly different lineup, but we always check you're happy with it first.
NB - many ceilidh bands operate from a pool of musicians rather than a fixed lineup.
What if my timings change after I've booked you?
We always try our best to be flexible to help ensure your event runs as smoothly as possible. If timings change slightly in the run up to the event just let us know.
Can you provide an iPod/DJ service before and between your sets?
We can absolutely provide background music before and during our set. We may be able to offer that afterwards - please ask. We don't usually offer a full DJ service, but it's not totally impossible - again, just ask.
How much time do you need to set up?
We usually like to allow an hour, but in practice it takes less than 30 minutes. We are a simple band to set up, and we can do most of the work discreetly whilst other things are happening if needs be.
Do you provide a caller?
Absolutely! We explain all our dances carefully so they're fun and inclusive for everyone. We're also happy to work with external callers (and can recommend people) so we can focus on being a full, four-piece band - just let us know if that's of interest adjust our offer accordingly!
Can I pick the songs you play from the set list?
Our set lists are crafted from countless performances and learning what works best to ensure guests dance and have an amazing time.
However, we're definitely happy to chat through and make sure we find what works for your event.
Is all of the equipment (e.g. PA) included in your quote?
Yes, we provide all the equipment we need, and just need a standard plug socket near where we're going to be playing to make it work.
Can you learn song requests before the event?
It's possible - just ask and we'll see what we can do. If we require special rehearsals there may be an additional cost, but we can talk about that.
What do your clients love most about your performances?
One of our favourite quotes from a gig we did: "I've never seen so many people smiling so much at any one time before."
Clients love the energy, the inclusivity, the way we provide just enough instruction that people can have fun having a go themselves - with a lot of silliness along the way. They love our music and they love that we love what we do!
Which venues have you performed at in the past?
Sidmouth Folk Festival, Whitby Folk Week, Oxfolk... venues right across London and the South East, sometimes further afield - we play anywhere, from Chiswick Town Hall to tipis in the woods!
Which artists have you been most influenced by?
Traditional Northumbrian, Scottish, Irish, English music. Kathryn Tickell, 422, Alistair Anderson, Blazin' Fiddles, Andy May Trio, Unusual Suspects... and many, many more. Oh and shoutout to Folkworks Summer School and Durham University Folk Society!
What is the most high profile gig you've performed?
We've performed in some great venues, but the gigs that stand out for us are those down-to-earth events celebrating families and friends in community halls. Real places, real people, real fun.
