About Shadow Sax

Saxophonist playing jazz standards/show tunes and Great American Songbook classics, and/or pop through the decades.
Saxophonist
Redditch
Public liability insurance of £10 million

Saxophonist (Baritone, Tenor, C-melody, Alto, Soprano, and Sopranino), composer, songwriter, recording artist, band leader, and producer. I've been gigging my bands around the midlands since 2013 and now also perform solo (with backing tracks). I have all my own gear including PA, radio mics, stage lights if required, and mini performance "tent-gazebo" (lawn based) if needed. I can play without electrical power supply using fully battery powered gear when needed and have £10,000,000 of public liability insurance cover. I commonly perform jazz standards/show tunes and Great American Songbook classics or original music (in a similar vein) or a mix thereof. and/or pop through the decades, or at Christmas I play a mix of jazzy Christmas classics in full Santa Suit which is EXTREMELY popular! I play the lighter end of jazz rather than the deep and heavy stuff! Think melodic, easily accessible, singalong, dance-along, enjoyable to jazz lovers and non-jazz lovers alike. Somewhere between trad and modern. I've had over 20 original tracks played on local BBC Introducing radio stations and been BBC Hereford & Worcester artist of the week, as well as having been invited in for a BBC live recording and videoing session. I'm available 24/7 for all types of gigs around the midlands, and will always also consider gigs further afield. I love to play! I pride myself on being utterly reliably and professional, and extremely flexible to ensure every gig goes smoothly and provides complete satisfaction. I've played weddings, anniversaries, parties, corporate events, food festivals, music festivals, cafes, jazz clubs, garden centres, care homes, fayres and fetes, and pubs and clubs. I've played on a bandstand, a rooftop, a beach, a steam train, in a volcano, and outside a hairdressers, and of course on many many stages, and I'd love to play for you! Please note: I don't currently play club or Ibiza vibes or with DJs. This may change in the future, but not right now. I gig week in week out through the year and have had almost 30 bookings on Encore alone at the time I write this - please see my 5 star reviews.

Thomas was absolutely brilliant the whole way through the booking process and had an excellent set of songs to choose from. Our guests were blown away on the night and were dancing along to lots of the songs. Thank you Thomas for making the evening so special and for learning a song for us as well. We would definitely book you again!!

Thank you so much for booking me for your birthday party Boyan. It was a lovely party and I really enjoyed playing for you and your guests. And massive thanks again to your lovely wife for the amazing (and huge) doggy bag of buffet food she insisted on sending me home with! :)

Exactly what we wanted. The ballads were lovely background music while we ate, and then Thomas stepped the tempo up after dinner for a bit of a boogie. Brilliant.

Thomas, My dad asked me to pass on his thanks for your music and for the bonus CD you so kindly gave him. Your music was just perfect for an 80th birthday party and brought back so many memories for him. Thanks so much! We’d love to have you back next year.

Customer questions

What do your clients love most about your performances?

That varies considerably by performance and requirement. They often talk about the joy the music brings, the sound that I have with the sax (sax tone), as well as my easy going nature, flexibility, and reliability.

Which venues have you performed at in the past?

There are so many including at a live recording session for the BBC at Jaqueline's in Ross-on-Wye, the Palace Theatre in Redditch, and countless weddings, restaurants, hotels, pubs, private parties, and care homes.

Which artists have you been most influenced by?

Stan Getz, Charlie Rouse, Grover Washington Junior

What is the most high profile gig you've performed?

The Albert Hall. More recently I was invited in for a live recording and videoing session by BBC Introducing to perform some of my original material and later became their artist of the week. I played at the Redditch Business Awards at The Palace Theatre, and on the Main Stage at the Redditch Christmas Lights Extravaganza shortly before Peter Andre.

What if my timings change after I've booked you?

I pride my self on being extremely flexible and I'll always do my best to fit in with any changes.

Can you provide an iPod/DJ service before and between your sets?

I'm very happy to play a selection of pre-recorded jazz standards and/or originals in a similar vein between sets if required. I charge an extra £25 for this service. Or £25 per additional half hour if this extends the length of the booking.

How much time do you need to set up?

Typically 45 minutes is plenty as long as loading and unloading the car is relatively close to the performance location.

Can I pick the songs you play from the set list?

Yes! You can see my current song list on my profile, which is growing all the time, and I'm always happy to send you a copy. Also, if you have any songs which are very special to you, but don't happen to be on my list yet, I am happy to look to see if I can source them and pick them up for your event, BEFORE you book.

Do you bring all the equipment you need to perform?

Yes completely, including a choice of mains powered PA or state of the art, professional, battery powered speakers.

Can you learn song requests before the event?

Yes, I do this regularly, but please let me know the song names BEFORE you book so that I can confirm that I can source them for you.
