Sean Gleeson is a 21-year-old Leeds and Manchester (UK) based trumpet player, currently in his final year of undergraduate studies at Leeds College of Music under the tuition of Dave Hooper and Peter Mainwaring. He was a member of numerous Oldham Music Centre ensembles for 12 years and gained opportunities to play on two separate tours to Paris and New York in 2011 and 2014 respectively. Closer to home, he has also performed at Birmingham Symphony Hall, the Royal Northern College of Music concert hall and the Birmingham Conservatoire concert hall with these ensembles. Throughout his time studying at Leeds College of Music, Sean has performed with and been principal trumpet of the LCoM Chamber Orchestra, the LCoM Wind Ensemble, the LCoM New Music Collective and is currently conductor of the LCoMSU Camerata, for which he has been rehearsing for an upcoming tour to Amsterdam in June 2017. Sean has performed in masterclasses with Murray Grieg and Paul Benniston and has also performed solo recitals at St. John’s Smith Square, London, Wakefield Cathedral and The Venue, Leeds. Sean is currently the principal trumpet for Leeds Youth Opera, performing Leonard Bernstein's “West Side Story” as well as Claude-Michel Schönberg’s “Les Miserables” in the past year, and will be returning in July 2017 for a performance of Giuseppe Verdi's “A Masked Ball”, all showcased at the Carriageworks Theatre, Leeds. He is also a regular performer with the Yorkshire Symphony Orchestra and the White Rose Orchestra and has been a guest conductor at the Alwoodley Community Orchestra. Other engagements include a production of Irving Berlin’s “Annie Get Your Gun” with the Longwood Amateur Operatic Society and a production of Cole Porter’s “Kiss me Kate” with the Leeds Gilbert and Sullivan Society. Despite studying classical music styles closely, Sean has a keen interest in multiple genres. In February, he performed in an ensemble to accompany LCoM Alumni and pop legend Marc Almond in a Valentine’s Day inspired concert.
