About Scuttlebutt Shanty Crew

Shanty crew with a blend of fun and revelry with stunning harmonies, your guests will be up on their feet and joining in!
A cappella group
EX34, UK
Public liability insurance of £1 million

Scuttlebutt Shanty started as a bunch of locals wanting to sing, brought to together under the musical guidance of Harrison Wallace. This has evolved into a stunning blend of voices and harmonies - all purely a cappella - which has had Scuttlebutt performing on the main stages of the UK's biggest shanty festivals in a very short time, including Cockwood Shanty Festival, Brixham Pirate Festival, Falmouth International Sea Shanty Festival, and Mevagissey Shanty Festival to name but a few of the main ones. Private bookings know that they are in for a lively and fun night when the pirates turn up! From the likes of Wellerman and Drunken Sailor to Wild Rover, our repertoire also includes some haunting softer songs, that have truly moved some of our audience, and has us being rebooked time and again. Scuttlebutt Shanty can fit with your style of event - from simply performing on stage, to actually 'invading' your party. But guaranteed, your guests will ALWAYS love it! We use no instruments, except for our voices! No matter the age of your audience, Scuttlebutt get them all involved!

Customer questions

What do your clients love most about your performances?

We are not just singers, we are performers. We love to be frontline with our audience and actively encourage client's guests to get involved with the performance. Guests love our energy and the fact that they are made to feel like part of the crew.

Which venues have you performed at in the past?

Brixham Pirate Festival Mevagissey Shanty Festival Cockwood Shanty Festival RNLI Ilfracombe Outdoors at Lynmouth Regatta Outdoors at Clovelly Harbour The Anchor Inn, Cockwood Royal British Legion, Starcross St Paul's Church, Starcross Starcross Pavillions Village Hall, Cockwood The Royal George, Appledore Instow Yacht Club

Which artists have you been most influenced by?

All of the classic shanty performers. We love taking traditional sea shanties and adding our own harmonies to them, making them sound unique and memorable.

What is the most high profile gig you've performed?

Brixham Pirate Festival main stage. This event attracts 65,000 visitors and there were 35,000 of them on the day we were performing. Mevagissy Shanty Festival was also memorable, filling their main tent with over 200 in the audience.

Do you have different line-up options?

We are all vocal performers. Whilst we are a big crew for larger events, we can perform as a smaller group to suit your venue or occasion.

What if my timings change after I've booked you?

We always try to be as flexible as possible for you, so if any of your timings change, simply let us know so we can ensure your event runs smoothly.

Can you provide an iPod/DJ service before and between your sets?

This is not something we offer as a crew, but can source if required.

How much time do you need to set up?

We usually set up 30 minutes before our performance time.

Can you roam around while you perform?

We absolutely love to get in your guests. We are a loud vocal group, and love getting the audience involved.

Can I pick the songs you play from the set list?

Our sets are created from a wealth of experience at events, ranging from lively and rowdy, to soft and melancholy. We adapt these as we perform, as we read the room. If there are any particular songs you would like, just let us know.

Is all of the equipment (e.g. PA & lighting) included in your quote?

In most cases we are loud enough without a PA. We would discuss with you the venue set up in advance.

Can you learn song requests before the event?

If there is a particular shanty you would like us to learn and perform for you, there would be a fee of £50 to cover time for learning and rehearsal time.
