Led by BBC Young Traditional Musician of the Year finalist, Grant McFarlane, Scotia showcases an exceptional level of musicianship whose roots lie in traditional Scottish music. Since 2002, the band have performed at thousands of events across the UK and internationally. We deliver the best ceilidh experience for your guests through fantastic music and easy-to-learn dances, no matter what experience they have. What Is A Ceilidh? A ceilidh is an exciting night of Scottish music and dancing. The perfect way to bring your guests together, they’ll be guided through a number of dances with some really easy-to-learn steps. There is no pressure to get every step perfect either as a ceilidh is a relaxed and fun event – although there may be an occasional prize for the best dancer. What To Expect On the night, we will arrive at your venue in good time and discretely setup our equipment. Our dance caller will then lead the night, guiding your guests through all of our dances and making any announcements necessary (i.e introducing bride and groom, last orders at the bar etc). Most of our clients choose a mix of ceilidh and disco to suit different tastes. Meet The Band GRANT MCFARLANE Accordion + Dance Caller Grant McFarlane is a dynamic accordionist who performs and teaches extensively around Scotland and further afield. Grant has performed worldwide having been part of musical collaborations in Australia, India and the USA. MHAIRI MACKINNON Fiddle Perthshire’s Mhairi Mackinnon is one of Scotland’s most innovative fiddle players. Mhairi has been involved in many projects throughout the world and has been a guest artist on BBC Scotland’s ‘Take the Floor’ hosted by the legendary Robbie Shepherd MBE. GRAEME CONNELL Drums Graeme Connell is a gifted and well-respected musician, having played with a number of bands throughout his career. Having toured internationally and recorded on a number of albums, his energetic playing drives the ceilidh dancing all night long. STUART TAYLOR Piano Stuart Taylor is a highly regarded pianist based in Glasgow. He started learning the piano at the age of 4 and has a wide range of influences in his playing. Stuart has toured internationally with Scotia as well as a local accordion orchestra and when not performing, is also a professional translator. JIM MCFARLANE Dance Caller On-The-Floor Jim McFarlane has been leading ceilidhs across the country since Scotia formed. A popular dance caller and MC, Jim always ensures a fantastically entertaining evening and will make sure all your guests know how to do the dances. Keep your fingers crossed for a prize from his infamous ‘prize bag’ if attending one of our events.
