The Suffolk-based Scintillo String Quartet has gained an enviable reputation for providing professional live music of the highest standard across Suffolk, Essex, Norfolk, & Cambridgeshire and are increasingly in demand to perform at weddings and events throughout East Anglia. Friendly and approachable, we specialise in providing a bespoke musical experience for weddings and relish the opportunity to play the music you'd like to hear as the soundtrack to your celebrations. Whether it be contemporary pop covers or Classical favourites, our ever-expanding, diverse and extensive repertoire is always played with panache and elegance to enhance any part of your day. The quartet boasts a wealth of musical experience, including performing with the Academy of St Martin-in-the-fields, the Iceni Ensemble, English Serenata, as well as live performances on BBC Radio 4, and performing at Covent Garden, The Comedy Store and St John Smith’s Square. Members of the quartet have performed for HM The Queen & HRH the Duke of Edinburgh, HRH The Princess Royal, in addition to several politicians and celebrities. Scintillo were fantastic on our wedding day, the music was high quality, their listed repertoire is extensive and varied with plenty to keep us happy. Chris was prompt, polite and helpful in communication, then on the day the quartet kept in touch and got to the venue early despite storm weather. Scintillo sounded the best when we were searching and we couldn’t have been happier with them, we wish we had a reason hire them again.

We had Chris and the guys for our wedding at The Fennes a couple of weeks ago and I truly do not have enough words to explain how amazing they are. Chris was so good in terms of communication in the run up to the day which was amazing. And on the day they were simply perfect. We’ve had so many people comment about how good they were and they’ve truly contributed to memories that will last a lifetime. The only regret we have is not being able to say thank you enough to them on the day! If you’re in any doubt as to hire these guys then definitely do it, you will not regret it at all!!

We can't recommend the Scintillo String Quartet more. We got married back in May 2019 at The Boathouse, in Norfolk. From start to finish they were brilliant - very responsive in getting back to us with answers to the hundreds of questions we had, and nothing ever seemed to be too much trouble. We really wanted one of our songs played - 'Tenerife Sea' by Ed Sheeran, and they made sure it was perfect for the day even though it wasn't on there repertoire list. They really set the scene for when our guests arrived and whilst playing us down the aisle to the songs we chose there wasn't a dry eye in sight. The music was just beautiful. Everyone enjoyed it from start to finish. Thank you so much for making our day that little bit more extra special.

Customer questions

Do you have different line-up options?

Although we specialise primarily as a string quartet, we do also have a string trio and duo option if there is a particular budget or space requirement in mind. Please contact us about these.

What if my timings change after I've booked you?

Once we accept your booking, your date is held in our dairy for you - if your timings change this is no problem at all. We do aim to always have the final details of our bookings firmed up a month before the event date, but as we understand things sometimes change we are always happy to work with our clients and their wishes.

How much time do you need to set up?

We always arrive at events at least 30 minutes before the playing start time - this given us plenty of time to liaise with the venue, to set up and be ready to perform.

Can I pick the pieces you play from the set list?

Of course! We have a huge repertoire list which encompasses over 350 years of music style, from Classical favourites to contemporary pop covers and with everything between! We welcome input from our clients to create the soundtrack to their celebrations and love putting together a bespoke playlist to create the ambience, style or theme they are looking for.

Do you bring all the equipment you need to perform?

Yes - as we are an acoustic ensemble we will bring our own instruments, (two violins, a viola and a cello), along with a set of four stands, music and stand lights. We do not need access to any power points at all.

Can you learn specific pieces before the event?

Our repertoire is constantly expanding and if we do not already hold a particular piece in our library we can happily arrange it for you for a small additional fee. Many wedding couples ask us to arrange a bespoke piece or song which is special to them to add to their day.

What do your clients love most about your performances?

The beautiful sound and versatility of the string quartet performed by approachable and friendly musicians and tailored to each event, formal or informal. One thing our couples always comment on is the breadth of our repertoire and how we are able to perform music which is important to them.

Which venues have you performed at in the past?

Scintillo performs extensively throughout Suffolk, Essex and across East Anglia. Regular venues include Hedingham Castle, Easton Grange, Longstowe Hall, Hengrave Hall, Woodhall Manor, Leez Priory and Gosfield Hall. We have also performed at the major UK concert halls including Royal Albert Hall, Royal Festival Hall, the Purcell Room and at Snape Maltings.

Which artists have you been most influenced by?

Too many to mention! Classical greats such as Yehudi Menuhin, Jacqueline du Pré: crossover artists such as Nigel Kennedy, Andrea Bocelli, Ludovico Einaudi; Rock and Pop artist such as Pink Floyd, Queen, The Beatles, and more recently pop musicians such as Ed Sheeran, Beyoncé and Coldplay all feature!

What is the most high profile gig you've performed?

Collectively we have been fortunate enough to perform for HM The Queen & HRH the Duke of Edinburgh, HRH The Princess Royal, Pixie Lott, Razorlight, The Maccabees, The White Company, Porsche, Audi UK, for the 2012 Olympics and at Jimmy's Farm. More recently we performed for the wedding of Olivia & Alex from Love Island, as featured on Sky TLC.
