Sarah Fanet

French-born Sarah Fanet considers herself an artistic ‘late bloomer’ with an untypical journey. She started classical guitar at age 9, also developing a passion for singing and writing songs. She moved to Scotland and discovered traditional music and although she continued playing informally over many years, she found renewed focus whilst living Cornwall. In 2012 her solo album, ‘Words for Music, Surely’, led to Irish performances during the Yeats celebration season in Sligo. Sarah came out as transgender during her second album recording at Watercolour, beginning gender reassignment and dealing with many challenges including depression. She moved to Lochaber and with the support of community and colleagues has resumed professional music-making. She has collaborated with NTS, and been recognised for her work with Highland-based Syrian refugees. She was the focus of a short documentary film in 2019. When not playing Sarah can be seen around Lochaber guiding visitors, sharing stories and songs. The line between being musician songwriter and a tour guide does not exist with Sarah. It is all about telling good stories and what they mean to her.
