Santi Lowe

Santiago Lowe is a London-based cellist, active as both a performer and teacher across a wide range of classical, early music, and contemporary projects. A graduate of the Royal Academy of Music in London, Santiago has developed an international profile as a versatile musician working across concert performance, recording, and interdisciplinary collaborations. Recent performance highlights include appearances at major international music festivals, including IRCAM Festival in Paris, as well as Napoli Totale Elettronica in Italy. Recent appearances also include the Ecos Festival in Spain and a UK tour with the Continuo Foundation alongside his family ensemble, the Lowe Ensemble. His performance experience spans prestigious venues and festivals in the UK and abroad. Alongside his concert work, Santiago has contributed to several recording projects, including a self produced album as well as recording collaborations with Nico Casal, Juice Ci and other artists and composers. He has also participated in soundtrack and studio recording projects, including La entrega, and regularly performs in London’s contemporary music scene, with appearances at Café OTO among other notable venues. Santiago is currently a cello teacher at the SWS School of Music, combining his teaching work with an active schedule of concerts and artistic performances. He previously taught at the Monteverdi Conservatory and La fábrica de música, and brings over a decade of teaching experience. For more than two years, he served as principal cellist of the early music ensemble Ars Combinatoria, based in Galicia, Spain. With the ensemble, he recorded St John Passion by Johann Sebastian Bach and premiered works by internationally renowned composers such as Carlos Satué and Félix Ibarrondo. He completed his undergraduate music studies in Baroque Cello Performance at the Royal Conservatory of Music of Madrid under the guidance of José Manuel Hernández. He has also attended masterclasses and specialised early music courses with leading musicians including Hiro Kurosaki, Itxiar Atutxa, Pedro Gandía, Andoni Mercero, Suzana Stefanovic, and Aldo Mata. Santiago has been awarded a Leverhulme Trust Arts Scholarship for 2024/25. Santiago currently plays on a Lockey Hill cello, generously loaned by the Royal Academy of Music, as well as a bow crafted by Luis Emilio Rodriguez from the Calleva collection.
