About Sam

singer (Countertenor)
Cambridge, Manchester, London

Sam's musical life started with his first violin lesson at the age of 4. He grew up in Stockport, playing violin in several local orchestras, along with singing in a local parish church choir. At the age of 13, he joined the Hallé Youth Orchestra. At a similar time he also undertook further study in piano and singing at the Junior Royal Northern College of Music. Sam read music at Robinson College, becoming senior choral scholar in his final year, along with singing in King's Voices and the University Chamber Choir. Whilst Sam sung as a tenor and baritone throughout his time at Cambridge, he made the bold venture into the countertenor world earlier this year, singing in Rochester Cathedral Choir. In 2014 Sam co-founded the Fisher Consort with Jonathan Schranz, where he remains the general manager and only regular counter-tenor of the group. Sam continues to develop his voice, having lessons from Patricia Rozario and deputising in various choirs round London and the South East.
