About Sam

Samuel Creer is a London based freelance cellist.
Cellist
London

London based cellist Samuel Creer started his successful musical career over 16 years ago whilst living on the Isle of Man. During his early music career, he gained valuable orchestral experience performing with both the Isle of Man Symphony Orchestra and Youth Orchestra, as well as giving solo performances at a variety of venues. In addition, he regularly participated, and won prizes in the Manx Music Festival and was a finalist in the Young Musician of Mann. Although his main focus was given to his principal instrument, the cello, in his early career, he also studied and gave regular performances playing the piano and organ. Samuel moved to London in 2012 to study at the London College of Music (LCM) under the tutelage of cellist Joseph Spooner. He graduated from the BMus Performance course at LCM in 2016, and received a First Class Honours degree, along with the Bernard and Haley Prize for outstanding achievement in classical music. In 2016, he continued his studies on the MMus Performance course at LCM. Samuel has participated in regular masterclasses, these include classes with members of the English Chamber Orchestra at LCM and with members of the Philadelphia Orchestra at the Southbank Centre. During his time in London he has performed in numerous concerts, notably as principal cellist of LCM Camerata and alternate principal cellist of the Collaborative Orchestra. Throughout his time with LCM Camerata, Samuel worked alongside members of the English Chamber Orchestra and the Band of the Coldstream Guards. He also co-founded the Belgard String Quartet in 2016, who have performed by invitation at the Royal Hospital (Chelsea), the French Embassy (Kensington), All Saint’s Church (Kingston), St Mary’s Church (Ealing) and St George’s Church (Brighton) to name a few. As a soloist Samuel has performed recitals at St Barnabas Church and St Mary’s Church in Ealing, London and at St Matthew’s Church on the Isle of Man. At the same time as studying at LCM, Samuel supported students on the Musical Theatre and Classical Singing courses by playing in the orchestral pit for many productions, including Will Todd's 'Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland’ (in collaboration with Opera Holland Park), Sondheim's 'A Little Night Music,' (with musical direction by Stuart Pedlar), Alex Loveless' 'Dracula the Musical’ and Purcell’s ‘Dido und Aeneas’. Since 2012, Samuel has also worked as a freelance musician, noteworthy achievements include playing at the Ealing Jazz Festival with Agata Kubiak, The Half Moon Putney with Ina Shai, ‘Waiting for Gaddot’ at the Soho Theatre with comedian Richard Gadd, ‘Rebirth’ with Shirin Majd at the ArtsDepot and ‘The Tale of Rumi’ with Sharyar at the Union Chapel. Samuel has also performed at the Grosvenor Hotel, The Coronet Theatre and at St Patrick’s Church with the Collaborative Orchestra. Additionally, Samuel has extensive experience working in studios, playing for film scores, artists and bands, as well as recording classical chamber music. He has also appeared in film and TV productions.

Sam is a very reliable and talented cellist. I really enjoyed working with him for both recordings and live performances. He perfectly fits in the ensemble and followed my singing well. It's amazing how quickly he adjusts to every piece he plays, and always made the rehearsals fun. As a professional cellist I would definitely recommend him.
