About Sam

Acoustic singer-guitarist. 13 years and hundreds of weddings across NZ and Australia. Now in London, ready to soundtrack yours.
Singing guitarist
London
Public liability insurance of £5 million

Sam Allen is a London-based singer-guitarist with thirteen years on the wedding and corporate circuit. Originally from New Zealand, he's performed at hundreds of weddings across NZ and Australia — solo with an acoustic guitar, fronting full bands, and everything in between. What couples and event managers tend to notice first is the fit. Sam takes the audience on a journey: a soft, attentive set during the ceremony and drinks reception that lets people actually talk; a warmer, more confident middle as the room loosens up; and a packed, joyful dance floor when it's time. His covers span Cat Stevens to Chappell Roan, Bon Iver to Bruno Mars — chosen because they work in real rooms, not because they look impressive on a list. He's built strong relationships with agencies, including Find A Band in New Zealand, performed for corporate clients like Panasonic NZ and Silver Fern Farms, and toured with extended band line-ups for major brand activations. Past clients have described his work as "seamless" and praised his "range of covers, done with Sam's own twist." Why he performs: because live music creates a connection nothing else does. There's something specific about the moment when a room of strangers becomes a room of people sharing the same song. After thirteen years and hundreds of weddings, that hasn't worn off — if anything it's the opposite. How he qualified: by doing it. Hundreds of weddings, hundreds of corporate events, and years inside agencies like Find A Band learning what makes the difference between a singer who performs songs and one who performs the moment. Performing highlights: • Hundreds of weddings across New Zealand and Australia • Christmas function for Panasonic NZ — "highly recommended from the Panasonic team" • Multiple corporate gigs for Silver Fern Farms (Brand Experience) • Touring extended band line-ups for major brand activations across both countries Sam is now London-based, available across the South East, and happy to travel further afield with travel covered. Solo acoustic shows from £750. Extended duos and full band line-ups available on request.

Me and my partner David wanted a singer who was soulful and could capture the importance of our wedding. We're both singers ourselves so this was really important to us! We got Sam to play two sets on the day, one for the ceremony and one at the drinks reception and loved his vibe! Sam has such a gorgeous voice and was a pleasure to work with. Would highly recommend!

We hired Sam for our wedding, and he did our acoustic set and our first song. He sang 'Can't help falling in love', and has half our friends and family in tears. He brought such unbelievable energy to our special day and put in so much effort to make sure that the set was everything we wanted, every song had so much joy and love poured into it. Never seen so many people on the dance floor at a wedding! He's such a fantastic musician and has a beautiful voice, I completely recommend him for anyone wanting great music to be a central part of their wedding day.

Customer questions

What do your clients love most about your performances?

Two things come up most: that I read the room and take guests on a journey across the day, and that I'm calm and prepared so nothing feels rushed. Past clients have described the experience as "seamless" and said my range of covers — done with my own twist — lands really well with mixed-age crowds.

Which venues have you performed at in the past?

Hundreds of weddings across New Zealand and Australia — vineyards, beach venues, country barns, urban warehouses, hotels and registry offices. Plus corporate work for clients including Panasonic NZ (Christmas function) and Silver Fern Farms (brand events). Now building my UK venue list — ready to add yours to it.

Which artists have you been most influenced by?

John Mayer, Michael Jackson, Earth Wind & Fire, Steely Dan

What is the most high profile gig you've performed?

Played a gig earlier this year which was 60,000 people back home in New Zealand. Here is how it went: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KUKuE3xXTLA&list=RDKUKuE3xXTLA&start_radio=1

What if my timings change after I've booked you?

Totally fine — wedding timings shift all the time. Just message me as soon as you know and we'll reshape the set together. On the day itself I'm flexible to roll with whatever's happening. The goal is your day running smoothly, not me sticking to a rigid schedule.

Can you provide an iPod/DJ service before and between your sets?

Yes — I run a curated Spotify playlist through my PA between sets and during setup at no extra cost. We'll match the vibe to your event (mellow during dinner, building energy before the dance floor, etc.). Tell me your must-plays and any do-not-plays when we chat closer to the date.

How much time do you need to set up?

About 45 minutes before performance time — I like to get the gear set up unhurried, soundcheck quickly, and then settle in. As soon as the PA is ready I'll start the background playlist for arriving guests, no extra cost. Just need a power socket within reach of the performance area.

Can I pick the pieces you play from the set list?

Absolutely. My set list is a starting point shaped by hundreds of weddings, but every event gets a tailored running order. Share your must-plays, the songs that matter to you, and any vibes to avoid — I'll build the set around them. You can also pick the order: chilled opening, party finish, or whatever fits the day.

Do you bring all the equipment you need to perform?

Yes — I bring everything I need: acoustic guitar, vocal mic, PA system, cables, mic stand. All gear is PAT-tested. For larger evening parties (150+ guests) I sometimes hire in an additional speaker — we'll discuss the venue and guest count when we plan the day.

Can you learn specific pieces before the event?

Yes — one bespoke song (e.g. first dance, aisle walk, processional, father-daughter) included free with at least 4 weeks' notice. Additional learn-requests beyond the first: £75 per song to cover rehearsal time. If a song is already in my repertoire (90+ tracks) I can usually adapt it on shorter notice.
