Rupert started playing the French Horn at the age of 8. At age 16, Rupert was awarded his ATCL Diploma in Performance and a year later was awarded his LGSMD Diploma in Performance, both with very high distinctions. In 2010 Rupert began studying for his 4 year BMus (Hons) degree at the Royal College of Music in London, studying with Nigel Black, Simon Rayner, John Ryan, Tim Jones, Jeffery Bryant and Sue Dent. During his time at the RCM he performed in several masterclasses with virtuoso horn players, including Radovan Vlatkovic and Martin Owen. Rupert also took part in many orchestral concerts, the most significant ones being a performance of Richard Strauss 'An Alpine Symphony' conducted by Maestro Bernard Haitink and a performance of works by Mozart with the RCM Classical Orchestra under Maestro Sir Roger Norrington. Rupert graduated from Royal College of Music in the summer of 2014 at which time he was chosen to represent RCM on a placement at Castleton Festival, Virginia, where he was conducted and mentored by the late, great Maestro Lorin Maazel performing Puccini's masterpiece Madama Butterfly and Mozart's Don Giovanni. In September 2014, Rupert was awarded the Dobie Scholarship and the Prince of Wales Advanced Study Award and began studying for his Masters Degree at the Royal Northern College of Music . During his first year at the RNCM, Rupert took part in numerous masterclasses with many famous horn players such as Bob Ashworth, Frøydis Ree Wekre and Jaques Delaplanque; he also took part in a Professional Experience Scheme with the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra. Rupert founded his brass quintet Lowry Brass at RNCM with trumpeters Luke Dempsey & Torstein Holmas, trombonist Jay Hall and tubist David Hamilton, and they were awarded the Phillip Jones Brass Ensemble Award in 2015. In summer 2015, Rupert also started playing professionally as an extra with The Hallé Orchestra. In 2016, Rupert was awarded the Arts Council of Wales Advanced Study Scholarship and the RNCM Oglesby Scholarship from the Oglesby Charitable Trust, and in July 2017, Rupert was chosen to represent RNCM at the Cantiere Internazionale d'Arte in Montepulciano, Italy.
