Does your party need the cool of Marty McFly, the thrills of the Ghostbusters, the spills of Top Gun, the fun of Beverly Hills Cop, and the sexiness of Dirty Dancing? Then look no further! We are Rubix Groove, a five piece function band from Bath serving up a feast of 80s bangers from New Romantics such as Duran Duran and the Human League, to Pop Royalty such as Madonna and Prince, throwing in some rock classics from the likes of Europe and Bon Jovi, mixing up some floor fillers from Madness & the Bangles and a sprinkling some movie moments from some of the decade’s iconic cinema moments. Introducing the band, Laura James heads up as lead vocalist and frontperson, ably backed by Jon Gore on Keys, Tony Taylor on Guitar, Tom Woodworth on Bass, and Martyn James on Drums providing a full 80’s sound. We pride ourselves both on faithful renditions of your favourite hits and the ability to mix and match to meet the mood. And we love to dress to impress! We have all been making music since we were at school and playing in bands since our teens. We are all professional standard musicians, but we also do it because we love it – we’ve been friends since university and still love making music together, and we feel that comes across in our dynamic, energetic performances. This band has been playing weddings, parties, clubs, and pubs for the best part of two decades and we have all the experience in how to make your evening - like all the best 80’s chart toppers - fabulously exciting and very smooth! We’ll bring our own PA system and lighting. We’ll aim to take the stress out of the occasion by coming completely equipped to deal with common issues that crop up, and, with agreement with the client, we can provide interval music or links for phone playlists, to make the whole evening link together seamlessly. We understand the need for good communication both leading up the event and on the day itself, to make sure that everything is perfect come the evening. Highlights of the band’s career have been playing for thousands in Bath supporting the Bootleg Beatles for the Jubilee celebration in Victoria Park, playing the Bath Festival and Widcombe Rising festivals on several occasions, playing at prestige wedding venues such as Combe Lodge, Cadbury House and Orchardleigh House, as well as countless other hotels, pubs, clubs, and marquees along the way!
