Rowan Jones is a London based freelance clarinettist who also has an interest for wider experimental art and music collaborations. She recently completed her Master’s of Performance degree at the Royal College of Music having graduated with 1st Class at the Royal Academy of Music with scholarship. During her time at conservatoire Rowan was under the tutelage of Chris Richards, Ben Mellefont, Mark Van de Wiel, Tim Lines, Richard Hosford, Peter Sparks, Barnaby Robson, Laurent Ben Slimane and Chi-Yu Mo. Rowan has played with a variety of esteemed orchestras including the orchestras of English National Opera and Opera North on clarinet, Eb and bass. She has performed under the batons of conductors such as Martyn Brabbins, Edward Gardner, Marin Alsop, John Wilson, Sir Mark Elder, Kirill Karabits. Aside from her orchestral work, Rowan’s keen interest in contemporary, experimental and collaborative music-making have lead to her playing with Tangram Collective, Explore Ensemble and being selected for the clarinet place on the London Sinfonietta Academy Scheme 2023/24. Rowan is a founding member of the award winning quintet Sylva Winds. They have collaborated with the Brazilian Embassy in London and Poliphonia for a number of projects, performed recitals in and around London for various music festivals and recorded at Abbey Road Studios.
