Rowan Flack

Rowan Flack is a South London-born contemporary jazz vocalist, composer, writer, and broadcaster, known for her warm tone, lyrical clarity, and evocative storytelling. Described by Wonderland Magazine as “quickly becoming a key figure in the UK jazz and soul renaissance,” she blends ECM-style textures with groove-led songwriting, drawing influence from Astrud Gilberto, Rita Payes, and Jan Garbarek. A graduate of the BRIT School, Trinity Laban Conservatoire, and Norway’s Edvard Grieg Academy, Rowan emerged with her 2019 debut EP New Light Dwelling — a vocalese-led project performed with her Norwegian sextet. Following a sold-out headline show at USF Verftet and press coverage in Bergensavisen, she held a two-month jazz residency in Xiamen, China. Her EP Forest Fires, supported by Help Musicians, garnered praise across national platforms including Jazzwise, Jazz FM, Notion, and Resonance FM. Recent live appearances include Pizza Express Jazz Club, Alfie’s Jazz Club, House of KOKO, Mr Wolfs (Bristol), Shindig Festival, and Klee in Bergen, Norway. Working fluidly across disciplines, Rowan presents and produces radio shows for One Jazz, writes as an arts journalist, and teaches jazz composition and vocals, embracing an “all-encompassing” artistic life of composing, performing, educating, researching, writing and crafting. With her stellar band — Rob Dimbleby (keys), Jack Lecomber (double bass), Andrew McCoubrey (drums), and Celeste Cantor-Stephens (saxophone) — Flack recently recorded her live EP ‘Nap on The Sofa’, supported by Help Musicians and GENERATE. Rowan works with a wide array of jazz and folk musicians on the London, Bristol and Bath scenes and can bring a duo, trio, quartet or her regular quintet to your event.
