About Ross

World class classical guitarist, the perfect addition to your special occasion!

There is something uniquely intimate about hearing a classical guitar played live. It can create a warm, elegant atmosphere to special occasions, and is why I particularly enjoy bringing live classical guitar to weddings, dinners, receptions and private events. I am a UK-based professional classical guitarist, and my career has been shaped by a love of collaboration and making music that connects with people. I studied at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland with acclaimed guitarist Allan Neave, completing both undergraduate and postgraduate degrees, having previously studied at Chetham’s School of Music. Alongside performing, I teach at the University of St Andrews and am involved in music leadership and education, so I bring many years of professional training and experience to every performance. I have performed throughout the UK and internationally, both as a soloist and chamber musician. Highlights include appearances at Kings Place, the Usher Hall, the National Gallery of Scotland and the St Magnus International Festival, as well as performances with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, Scottish Opera and Glyndebourne. I am also a founding member of Quartet Malamatina, a guitar quartet which has toured across the UK and North America, performed for BBC Radio Scotland and appeared at venues and festivals including the Banff Centre, YellowBarn and Perth Concert Hall. The quartet has commissioned and premiered new music and has been praised for its “immensely colourful, lyrical and expressive playing.” As a performer, I aim to be expressive, approachable and adaptable. I believe that live music should enhance an occasion rather than overwhelm it, whether that means providing a beautiful backdrop while guests arrive and mingle, creating a memorable moment during a wedding ceremony, or taking centre stage for a more focused concert. I am also very happy to learn special requests in advance. If there is a particular piece that would make your event more personal, I can often prepare and arrange it especially for the occasion. This could be a favourite song, a piece with sentimental significance, or music chosen to complement the style and atmosphere of your event. For smaller venues and intimate events, I can also bring a compact, high-quality amplification system, meaning you don't need to worry about providing amplification. This makes my setup particularly well suited to wedding ceremonies, drinks receptions, private dinners and other events where space is limited but you still want the presence and impact of live music. Whether you are looking for elegant background music, a special musical moment or a short concert-style performance, I aim to make the experience seamless, personal and memorable. Most importantly, I want the music to feel like it belongs to your event.

"Ross is considered one of the most exciting of the new generation of British guitarists, the kind of musician who sounds as if they are playing three instruments at once or have an invisible backing band."

"His programme was mature and considered, and his technique refined. I have been an international concert artist for over 30 years, but I believe Llobet and Barrios were safer in his hands than in those of many of the legendary names with whom I have worked. Mr Morris has an outstanding technique, and his interpretations were worthy of performers twice his age and experience. Subtle nuances and refined tonal qualities characterised his performance at Hellys – and his audience was delighted at his recital."
