Roslin Russell

From a very young age Roslin developed her love for singing while performing in choirs and musicals at school - she also took up the piano, guitar and alto sax. Inspired by her dad's music collection and skiffle past (he played the washboard for Les Hobeaux at the 2i's Coffee Bar, birthplace of Rock'n Roll, in 1950s Soho London), her love of jazz started in her early teens, listening to Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong, Fats Domino, Miles Davis among many others..... She regularly performs in Cambridge at the 12a Club and she's also performed at Jazz@John's, Clare Jazz, The Tram Depot, The Earl Of Beaconsfield (blues jams), Bar Baroosh, The Carpenter Arms, The Arts Picturehouse, CB2, Hot Numbers Coffee and the Relevant Record Cafe. Influences and music that she likes are quite diverse! Billie Holiday, Nina Simone, Etta Jones, Etta James, Amy Winehouse..... Esbjorn Svensson Trio, The The Bad Plus, Cinematic Orchestra, Portico Quartet..... Herbie Hancock, Stevie Wonder, Gil Scott Heron, James Mason, Prince, Brand...... Gang Starr, Jamiroquai, Orgone, D'Angelo, Jose James, Richard Spavern, Esperanza Spalding, Eric Harland, Snarky Puppy, Robert Glasper, Kendrick Lamar ....
