About Rosie

With a voice from years gone by, but a repertoire that's up to the minute modern, Rosie Holman brings something special. - The Guardian
Singer
Southend-on-Sea
Public liability insurance of £10 million
Verified profile

Born and raised in the Thames Delta in a family of musicians, Rosie lives and breathes the music of a bygone era, bringing a real authenticity to the soul and jazz music she sings. It's hard not to make comparisons to the likes of Billie, Ella and Amy, yet she remains unique. Like the greats, Rosie's craft has been honed over many years, first in the pubs and clubs and then some of the UK's most well known venues. Grab a whiskey, sit back and enjoy the genuine jazz article. Career highlights include singing at 100 Club, London and performing for the Canary Wharf Summer Sessions as part of an acoustic duo in front of around 2000 people.

Rosie was a joy to work with. I booked her for the opening act of my daughter’s Hen party, and she was a great success! Rosie spent time with me beforehand, working through the set list and running order. She stayed in touch throughout the process, right up until the day of the party. On the evening itself, she was a consummate professional. With her warm personality and beautiful voice, she really got our party going! I’d most definitely recommend Rosie, and hope to book her again in the future.

Rosie and the band made the music for the event INCREDIBLE. They sounded amazing, they read the room, they had amazing stage presence and honestly created such a wonderful atmosphere. Rosie went above and beyond for the event and made the night so extra special. Thoroughly recommend Decatur Street Jazz if you want awesome musicians, an incredible singer and true professionals.

We booked Rosie for a Great Gatsby themed 30th. This was a surprisingly difficult genre to find a singer for who could do what we was after. We wanted a modern twist with the 1920s theme such as from the Great Gatsby theme. And Rosie absolutely nailed it. All the guests at the party as it was at a privately booked hotel they did not know of a singer performing on the Saturday and when Rosie began to sing everyone was in shock. Had compliments all night at how good she was, everyone was partying all night and Rosie made it fun and interacted. Will definitely book again and been told I have to book Rosie when we eventually get married. Made the night amazing thank you! 10/10!

Customer questions

What if my timings change after I've booked you?

No problem. Just let me know your timings and I will try to fit around you as best I can!

Can you provide an iPod/DJ service before and between your sets?

Yes! I quite often run a laptop DJ service in before and in between my sets. If you'd like me to stay on after my last set and DJ, it's an additional £150. I can tailor the DJ music to suit your preferences and if you send me a list of songs you'd like, or a playlist, I can sort those for you.

How much time do you need to set up?

Usually around an hour provided the load in point to the venue us near where I'm playing. If the load in point at the venue is further away from where I'm playing, it may take a little longer.

Can I pick the pieces you play from the set list?

Yes, definitely. If there's something from my repertoire that you'd like to hear at your event, just let me know!

Do you bring all the equipment you need to perform?

Yes! My standard set up includes a PA suitable for up to 80 guests. If you have more than 80 guests this can be upgraded to a PA to suit up to 300 guests for an additional fee of £200. This includes bringing our sound engineer so that the sound is spot on for your event.

Can you learn specific pieces before the event?

Absolutely. Just let me know what you'd like.

What do your clients love most about your performances?

My voice. I know that sounds a bit weird! But that's what most clients tell me they love about my performance. I connect with the music in an emotional way, I don't just sing it, I perform it and that comes through in my sound. I know that sounds a bit arty farty but it's true.

Which venues have you performed at in the past?

I have performed in a LOT of venues over the years! Wedding venues, venues for corporate parties and private events. On boats, in barns, in fields, in kitchens and courtyards. In theatres, clubs, pubs and restaurants... The best venue I've played though is the 100 Club, for it's legacy - some of the most prestigious artists in the world have played there!

Which artists have you been most influenced by?

I grew up on a mixture of Blues music (from my Dad), Pop music (from my Mum) and Musical Theatre (from my Grandma). So to name a few... Stevie Ray Vaughn, Steeley Dan, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Smokey Robinson and The Stones. The Spice Girls, George Michael, Kate Bush, Annie Lennox, Beverley Knight, Aretha Franklin, Billie Holiday and Pink.

What is the most high profile gig you've performed?

I played at the Canary Wharf Summer Sessions one year, on the green in the middle of Canary wharf. I was part of an acoustic duo and we were on the biggest stage we'd ever played, playing to 2000 odd people sitting on the grass, on their lunch break. Mad.
