Rosie de Lloyd graduated in Music & Maths at University of Wales, Cardiff. She moved on to the BBC Training Orchestra in Bristol and gained experience as principal cellist, performing as soloist in live televised performances of Haydn Sinfonia Concertante. Her quartet took part in many master classes with the Amadeus Quartet.
Before coming back to Wales, she was a member of English National Opera, during which time she also free-lanced with the BBC Concert Orchestra and various other ensembles. When she returned, she free-lanced with various orchestras including the BBC NOW and WNO & took part in several television and film productions for S4C.
In 1989 she founded the Wingfield Ensemble and The Welsh Sinfonia. Having completed her mission to establish the name of the Welsh Sinfonia, she faced a new challenge in 2011, establishing the Concert Orchestra De Cymru. The new orchestra focused on Operatic and Choral repertoire. Her mission is to make music accessible to all tastes and all ages. An accomplished arranger, she specialises in trio, quartet, choral and chamber orchestra reductions. CODEC specialises in themed concerts, accompaniments and the finest popular classics in the orchestral, operatic & choral repertoire.
The orchestra's membership is drawn from the finest of professional musicians based in Cardiff & further afield.
Having played frequently together over the years, whether as chamber or orchestral musicians, members of the Concert Orchestra de Cymru have vast experience and knowledge of repertoire under their belts.
Thus equipped, they can tackle any style from baroque to pop, adapting to the requirements of event. They play together as one, able to accompany soloists, choirs, and opera with or without a conductor.
The mainstay of the orchestra's work is accompanying choral works. Accompanying is our forte, whether it be for an opera gala, choral society or concerto. You’ll find us flexible to your needs, as our musicians play together as one with or without a conductor.
