About Room 3

Room 3 is a jazz quartet/quintet made up of guildhall conservatoire musicians. We play bebop, avant garde, any jazz from the 40s onwards

Our group is made up of guildhall conservatoire musicians studying on the jazz course. Chris Clayden (sax), Luke Lane (trumpet), Vincent Malloch (guitar), James Leaver-Whitfield (bass) and Theo Hayhurst (Drums). We have been playing together for over a year and have discovered our own sound. We regularly gig, hosting a weekly jam session at The Old Ivy House in Clerkenwell, as well as doing other gigs locally and further away. We are based in London but are able to travel anywhere as most of us can drive. We are very happy to take some requests and encourage guests to participate or dance!

Which artists have you been most influenced by?

Were all inspired individually and as a group by many artists from the jazz scene such as John Coltrane, Art Blakey & the Jazz Messengers, Sonny Rollins, Miles Davis, Ahmad Jahmal, Michael Brecker.

Will the singer be the same as who I see in the videos?

If you would like to request a singer for the 5 piece that can be arranged, the line-up for the rest of the band may vary slightly but we promise that quality in music will not differ.

Do you have different line-up options?

We have a main lineup but we regularly play/rehearse with our deps in case someone can not make it.

What if my timings change after I've booked you?

It must be discussed first but if it is still possible for us to make it there should be no issue at all.

Can you provide an iPod/DJ service before and between your sets?

We can provide music inbetween sets of a jazz or jazz influenced style, or we can set it up so the guest may play their own songs/playlists

How much time do you need to set up?

30 minutes is plenty of time for us to set-up but we can come earlier if need be

Can I pick the songs you play from the set list?

You can pick any songs from our set list, if you have other specific reuqests please discuss with us and we will try and make it happen!

Is all of the equipment (e.g. PA & lighting) included in your quote?

We don't own any lighting but we have PA equipment.

Can you learn song requests before the event?

Yes, please let us know a week or more before so we can make sure it's rehearsed and off good quality. We can't do a whole set of tunes off the set list but we can do a few!
