Roland Palmer is a classically trained multi-instrumentalist, producer, arranger and recording engineer. He was introduced to music at the age of three when he began studying the cello, and subsequently took up the trumpet, guitar and singing, reaching grade 8 on each. Roland studied music at The University of Manchester, where he specialised in performance and composition, and then completed a masters' degree in Music Production at Leeds Beckett University. Roland has studied the cello with members of The Hallé and the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra and was principal cello of the Manchester University Music Society Symphony Orchestra and the Leeds University Union Symphony Orchestra, performing a concerto with the latter ensemble. Roland also plays with Bournemouth-based orchestra Questa Musica. As a multi-instrumentalist, Roland has worked with numerous bands across the country both on tour and in the studio, most notably Atlantic/Warner Music artist JASMINE THOMPSON (on World and European tours), as well as The Travelling Band, Ren Harvieu and Chloe Foy, and continues to produce and play guitar for his own project Lesbian Plebian. He has shared billing with acts such as the Foo Fighters, Rick Astley, Pixie Lott, The Magic Numbers, OPM, The Vamps, The Feeling, Turin Brakes, and Electric Six, and has played venues such as Wembley Arena, The Cluj Arena and The Docks (Hamburg), and at festivals such as SummerSonic (Tokyo/Osaka), Home Festival (Italy) and Untold Festival (Romania). He has worked as a pit musician also, most recently playing for the Encore Youth Theatre's production of Oklahoma! in Winchester. Roland has also appeared on television, playing cello on Michael McIntyre's Big Show in 2016. Roland has done arrangements for Simon Lole Productions in London and carol services at Wells Cathedral, and also teaches cello and guitar both privately and in local schools. As an engineer, Roland has worked with many local acts, and has assisted Emmy-winning composer Jennie Muskett (Spooks, The Prince and Me, Miss Austen Regrets) and Olga FitzRoy (Coldplay, Seasick Steve, MPG Recording Engineer of the Year 2016). In the studio, Roland's strengths lie in making intricate, inventive and (most importantly) musically appropriate production and arrangement decisions. His musical taste is diverse (from metal to jazz to classical) and so he has the ability to find and bring out the nuance in any musical composition. He applies this same thinking to his work as a mix engineer, focusing on what makes the track different and then amplifying it.
