As a performer, I play regularly across the UK in bands and as a soloist ranging styles from Irish, Scottish and English fiddle, folk-jazz fusion, Klezmer, country and bluegrass, as well as continuing my lifelong interest in classical music. I offer a very high standard of performance along with a professional and reliable attitude. I perform regularly at birthday party's, weddings and corporate events as well as being involved in community music projects.
I started studying the violin at the age of 5 and was taught according to the Suzuki method. As my classical studies progressed, I went on to achieve ABRSM Grade 8 whilst in high school. I continued my musical studies at the University of London’s School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), achieving a 2:1 BA (Hons).
Throughout my time at SOAS, I primarily focussed on North Indian classical and Klezmer music. I studied Klezmer violin with the London Klezmer Quartet violinist, Ilana Cravitz. For my final year recital, I achieved a high 1st class grade.
Following graduation, I continued to pursue my love of Indian classical music, spending 6 months in India studying Raga with the Varanasi based musician, Sanjay Mishra. This period of study has equipped me with a deep understanding of the performance of Indian classical Raga. Outside of these particular genres, I enjoy playing English and Celtic folk music.
As a teacher I am thorough, patient, creative and open-minded. I have the ability to teach students of all levels, age groups and backgrounds. My strengths as a teacher lie in my versatility in approaching a diverse range of styles, whilst catering to students’ individual interests.
Before working for Leeds Violin School, I worked at a music workshop for teenagers with disabilities. This has helped me develop innovative and accommodating approaches when engaging students with special needs, ensuring that all students will be fully catered for.
