About Robbie

I am a solo guitarist and singer with a folky, fingerpicking style, performing music from the 50s to the present day.
Singing guitarist
Glasgow
Public liability insurance of £10 million

Over twenty years of experience in the music industry has seen Robbie perform all over the UK as a multi-instrumentalist, from Lerwick to Brighton. As a recording engineer he has produced critically acclaimed records for musician and film-maker Adam Stafford amongst others. His own debut solo album was warmly received when released in late 2013. He currently performs mainly as a solo guitarist and singer. His style stems mainly from a gently, folky, fingerpicking technique, but he has wide repertoire to suit many different venues and events.

Robbie was truly amazing on our special day and everyone who came to our wedding complimented us on our choice of singer. Highly recommended, went above and beyond and nothing was any bother to him. His singing was spot on and music choice was fantastic for our wedding. I would not search any further as you won’t be disappointed with Robbie!

I love listening to Robbie, I see why comparisons get made with John Martyn as his acoustic playing is top class and is my own opinion the most accomplished acoustic player in the area.

Customer questions

What if my timings change after I've booked you?

Small changes in timing shouldn’t be a problem. Just let me know about any changes and I’ll do my best to make sure things run smoothly.

Can you provide an iPod/DJ service before and between your sets?

I am happy to play music through my PA system before and between sets, but please let me know in advance so I bring the correct cables. Music after my set is possible, but would likely incite an extra charge.

How much time do you need to set up?

Usually I need only 15-20 minutes from arrival to be ready to play. This might increase depending on venue access and distance to parking areas for loading.

Can I pick the songs you play from the set list?

I tend not to work from a specific setlist and always try to choose the songs I play from the reaction in the room. I am always happy to incorporate any specific songs you need for the event and take requests on the night whenever possible.

Do you bring all the equipment you need to perform?

Yes. I am alway self contained in terms of instruments and equipment needed. Should the venue have an in house system that they prefer me to use, I am happy to liaise with them to make sure we have everything needed to make the night work.

Can you learn song requests before the event?

Of course. I am happy to learn pretty much anything, given enough advance warning. There may be some songs I can’t play, perhaps due to the original being sung way out of my range or having an arrangement that will not work well in solo acoustic guitar. I’ll always do my best to make it work or find and suggest great alternatives.

What do your clients love most about your performances?

I am often complemented on my choice of songs and being able to set the right mood.

Which venues have you performed at in the past?

Too many to mention. I have performed all over the UK in all kinds of places, from regular music venues to country homes, converted churches, outdoor festivals, big stages and small. I have enough experience to cope with performing pretty much anywhere.

Which artists have you been most influenced by?

I am very influenced by guitar-driven folk players like John Martin, Bert Jansch or Nick Drake. I listen to a wide variety of music though and am happy to try my hand at anything.

What is the most high profile gig you've performed?

I have had performances recorded for BBC television and performed live on radio.
