Music has never been just a job for me; it is genuinely what makes me tick. I began my musical path on classical piano at seven before discovering the raw power of the guitar as a teenager, and I’ve been performing live professionally ever since. That drive to connect with a crowd—to watch people let their hair down, sing along, and forget their week for a couple of hours—is why I still play full-time today. What makes Rob Berry & The Deadbeat genuinely unique is the blend of decades of high-level musicianship with a showmanship hook you simply won’t find anywhere else. Front and centre is great music: driving classic rock and blues favourites delivered with powerhouse vocals and authentic, seasoned guitar work. But sharing the stage is The Deadbeat—a custom-built, computer-controlled robotic skeleton drummer that actually plays live percussion. He isn't a prop or a gimmick track; his mechanical arms strike the kit in real time, keeping a solid groove and occasionally chiming in with wonderfully cheesy banter between numbers. It gives private parties, pubs, and festivals the punch of a full live rhythm section without overwhelming the room, creating an engaging spectacle that turns heads instantly. My qualifications come from a lifetime spent on stage and behind the mixing desk at the highest industry levels. During the 1980s, I worked as a sound engineer at top facilities including Bermuda Sound Studios, Metropolis, and Swanyard Studios in London. That career put me side-by-side with legends: engineering on Keith Richards’ Talk is Cheap (gaining invaluable firsthand guitar masterclasses from Keith in the process) and collaborating with producers and artists like Alan Moulder, Gary Langan, Johnny Marr, and Bernard Sumner. As a player, I’ve handled guitar session work for notable artists such as Tom Robinson and Chris White of Dire Straits. Those decades in premier studios instilled an obsessive standard for high-end audio quality and absolute reliability. When clients book me, they aren’t just getting an entertainer; they are hiring a seasoned professional who understands acoustics, manages stage volume flawlessly, uses top-tier equipment, and runs every event with punctual, stress-free organisation. Over the years, performing highlights have ranged from intimate private milestones to bustling festival stages and rowdy pub nights where the whole room ends up on their feet. There is a special buzz in seeing sceptics do a double-take at the robotic drummer, only to realise thirty seconds later that they’re watching a tight, high-energy rock show delivered by someone who has lived and breathed this music for forty years. Whether delivering a bespoke set for a milestone birthday, an energetic corporate event, or an outdoor festival crowd, my focus is always the same: first-class musicianship, great sound, and an unforgettable night out.
