About Richard

Freelance Bassoonist from Birmingham
Bassoonist
Birmingham

After being awarded a four year scholarship to study at the Birmingham Conservatoire, I graduated with a 2:1 honours degree studying with Maria Mealey, Margaret Cookhorn, Nicholas Hunka, Meyrick Alexander and consultation lessons with Gareth Newman. I then accepted a place at the Royal Northern College of Music in 2007, studying with Laurence Perkins and receiving a Merit for my PGDip(Perf). Following music college, I have worked as a teacher for Worcestershire Youth Music, now being their Head of Double Reed. Whilst part of the Chameleon Ensemble, I now play regularly with Sinfonia of Birmingham, Birmingham Philharmonic Orchestra, Orchestra of St John and Worcestershire Symphony Orchestra. This has lead to several performances of the Mozart Bassoon Concerto, and I hope to perform the Weber Bassoon Concerto as part of Worcestershire Symphony's 2016/17 season.
